Wilmington CC North Course Project

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What specific infrastructure issues are being addressed? Key areas include drainage, irrigation, turf conditions, outdated bunkering, green complexes, and overall routing efficiency.

How will this renovation benefit the membership? Members can expect improved course conditions, enhanced strategy and aesthetics, better drainage and turf health. Will members still have access to golf during the renovation? Yes. The South Course will remain open with tee times, and the schedule of events will be adjusted to ensure continued access to golf and practice facilities. Why did we not save in advance for the project? Wilmington Country Club’s annual dues have historically been structured to fund the ongoing operations, capital improvements, and member experience of the club—not to accumulate large reserves for large-scale, once-in-a-generation projects. This approach has resulted in dues remaining as stable and predictable as possible for all members. Paying when the need arises, rather than significantly raising dues over many years in advance, was chosen as the preferred method. Why does it cost me more to pay over time? When members opt to pay over time, the Club has to accrue more debt to cover vendor payments. The finance charge passed on to members will cover the cost of that additional debt.

Will the course layout change significantly? Yes, in order to address existing design issues, changes are necessary. The focus will be on member play - for all skill levels and making it an enjoyable experience each round. How long will the renovation take? The exact timeline will be communicated in detail as planning progresses, but members should anticipate one full season of closure for construction and grow-in. Membership Development: While there is no immediate concern regarding our membership levels, we recognize that ongoing attention to member development is essential to our long-range plan. The Membership Development Committee continues to evaluate trends, anticipate future needs, and ensure that we maintain the right balance between welcoming new members and preserving the exceptional experience our current members enjoy. Club Accessability: Members will continue to have access to all other club amenities, including practice facilities, dining, racquet sports, fitness, and pool areas. Is this Project able to be Phased: The original scope of the project included all practice facilities, halfway houses, South Course enhancments. That work is still necessary, but will be phased in over the coming years. The irrigation system and the North Course renovation work cannot feasibly and affordably be phased over a span of years.
