Red Card! Standing together
TOLERANCE AND RESPECT In a bold move to commemorate Black History Month, our School Council took charge and organised an event called "Show Racism the Red Card" day. On the 20th of October 2023, our children united in a powerful display of solidarity against racism. The school council urged all children and staff to come to school dressed in a striking shade of red, be it a jumper, t-shirt, socks, or even a hairband. The aim was to raise awareness and foster a sense of unity within our school community. Importantly, this event was not a fundraiser, so no donations were required. The focus was solely on making a powerful statement against racism. Parents and carers were reminded that their children should come to school in their regular uniforms, but with a red item incorporated. For instance, a red jumper paired with their school skirt or trousers, or a full uniform complemented by red socks or a stylish hairband. The School Council would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the parents, carers and children who participated in this momentous event. Together, we have sent a resounding message that racism has no place in our school or community. There was a t-shirt design competition which resulted in magnificent imagination. The school council chose a winning design which will be printed for the amazing artist and kept in school too, Let's continue to educate, empower and inspire our children to be the change they want to see in the world. Together, we can make a difference!

GARDENERS’ WORLD Abbey hosted the Radio 4 crew of Gardeners’ World for their popular show ‘Gardeners’ question time’ in conjunction with Warley Woods Community Trust. The double programme will be broadcast in early December.
