THE
IBD! Raising awareness
MIGHTY MAX Monday, 19th May was World Inflammatory Bowel Disease Awareness Day. One of our Year 5 students, Max Harvey, would like to help raise awareness about this disease and the impact these lifelong conditions have on people’s lives. Max was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis—one type of Inflammatory Bowel Disease—when he was just eight years old. Being unwell and then receiving a diagnosis for a lifelong condition with no known cure was a frightening experience for him. Over the past two years, Max has learned a great deal about the disease and how to manage life with it. Sometimes it means he can't leave the house, feels too unwell to attend school, or struggles with tiredness and pain while at school. He regularly visits Birmingham Children’s Hospital for treatment and other medical procedures. Max has shown incredible bravery by volunteering for a drug trial that may help make the medication he receives available to other children worldwide. His courage and positive attitude are truly inspiring. Thanks to Max and Max’s mum for the story.
