Honouring a legacy
The power of partnership in education
I nspired by Edward Alleyn’s founding mission in 1619 to establish the “College of God’s Gift,” we believe education is a gift meant to be shared, and extended outward into the wider world. Our approach today reflects this deep-rooted commitment to serving our broader community. Dulwich College is nestled in the heart of Southwark, a vibrant and deeply diverse borough, rich in culture and creativity, but also marked by complex social and economic challenges. The
educational landscape here is full of potential, yet opportunities remain uneven. That’s why cross- sector partnerships are so important. They create something far greater than the sum of their parts. These partnerships are acts of shared investment in our collective future. They generate mutual benefits: fresh perspectives, shared expertise, and enduring relationships that help all learners thrive. Our Saturday School, run under the auspices of the Southwark Community Education Charity (SCEC), addresses local need for greater access to specialist teaching and facilities. Designed to complement the work of our primary colleagues, it focuses on areas where extra support can have real impact: science, creativity, and, new from this September, music. College staff deliver tailored programmes using specialist equipment and spaces, while our own students are trained to help deliver content safely and meaningfully. In doing so, they build confidence, leadership, and empathy; skills that serve them far beyond the classroom. While the benefits may not be equal, they are mutual: local students gain enriching opportunities, and we, in turn, grow as educators and learners. Our strategic vision includes a continuum of partnership, from charitable outreach to deeply embedded collaboration. Every point along that spectrum matters. But our long-term goal is to maximise shared value in every interaction. That means listening as much as leading, and ensuring that our partnership work is always reciprocal, never transactional.
