CASTORS STILL ON FIRE AFTER A MONTH OFF

After junior hockey was put on hold for the month of January, the Clarence Castors picked their season up exactly where they left off, winning back-to- back games against the South Grenville Rangers (4-3) and the Gatineau-Hull Volant (1-0) over the weekend. The Castors didn’t coast their way to victory however. According to Head Coach Tim Kosch, both games were hardly fought contests: “They felt light playoff games. The teams in our division are all fighting for the 1st place in the league right now.” The Clarence team started their weekend off on the right foot, making a successful comeback and defeating the Rangers 4-3 in South Grenville on February 5. Alex Ross and Jacob Servant each scored a goal and Jordan Croll-Stevensson scored two goals to secure the win for the Castors. Xavier Brunet, Alderic Denis, Nicholas Gaumond and Cayden Martin all scored assists in the victory. The Castors were hosting the Gatineau- Hull Volant in Clarence on the very next day. After three scoreless periods, Alderic Denis finally scored the game-winning goal for the home team in overtime, assisted by Xavier Brunet. Corey Camirand was perfect in front of the net for the Castors, getting his third shutout of the year to lead his team to victory. “Our goalie was our best player”, said Tim

the playoffs. It would be nice for our team to finish first in the league, but it’s not our focus. It’d be a nice bonus.” The Clarence Castors will again face off against the Volant and the Rangers next weekend, and the outcome of these games will determine the standings for the playoffs.

Après une pause d’un mois dans la CCHL, les Nationals de Rockland ont remporté leur match de vendredi 5-4 contre les Wolves de Renfrew avant de s’incliner 3-2 contre les Bears de Smiths Falls le lendemain. Les Wolves ont été les premiers à s’ins- crire au pointage vendredi quand Charlie Johnson a marqué son 17 e but de la saison pour donner l’avance aux siens, aidé par Owen Miley et Tyson Phare. L’attaquant des Nats William Pilon a créé l’égalité quelques minutes plus tard sur passes de Nick White et de Tucker Shields. Mais les Wolves ont rajouté deux buts avant la fin du premier vingt pour reprendre contrôle du match. Cependant, les Nationals n’avaient pas dit leur dernier mot. L’équipe locale est parvenue à imposer son rythme aux visiteurs en deuxième période pour inscrire trois buts sans riposte. Manny Cabral a fait vibrer les cordages dès la première minute de jeu du deuxième engagement pour réduire l’écart à un but. Gabriel Filion a ensuite créé l’égalité à nou- veau en inscrivant son 6 e but de la saison sur des passes de Yanic Crête et de Joshua Reid. Quelques minutes plus tard, John Mulvihill donnait l’avance à Rockland pour la première fois du match, aidé par William Collins et Giovanni Morneau. Gabriel Filion a inscrit le but victorieux pour les Nats au milieu du troisième vingt, aidé par Reid et le gardien Jack McGovern.
