either. In the Hebrew the word heart refers to that which is the central part of man’s existence. Mind, emotion, af fections, will, and spirit are all em bodied in it. God doesn’t promise to re new the blood-pumping organ of the body but he does promise eternal life, which is far more than any mere physi cian on earth could provide. The Lord has promised to the one who puts complete faith and trust in His sav ing grace, “A new heart will I put within you!”
promise that the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Prayer doesn’t need proof; it needs practice.
OUR GREATEST NEED Despite the fact that there are prob lems and pressures to be faced on every hand, the hours ahead can be most sig nificant for you. Think about the fact that the greatest handicap you have is fear! Your greatest mistake will be in giving up. The greatest stumbling block is your own ego and personal pride. The easiest thing to do is to find fault. The greatest need is good common sense guided by the Holy Spirit. The best gift is God’s forgive ness. The greatest knowledge is the Lord Himself through the person of His Son Jesus Christ. Can you say with the Psalmist of old, “This is the dafj which the Lord hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in it!” (Psalms 118:24). COST OF A HEART Newsweek magazine recently gave out the information of the cost of transplanting a heart into Mike Kas perak, the 54-year-old former steel worker. The bill totaled $28,845. Kas- perak died some 14 days after the sur gery. The physicians who were involved in the operation are salaried members of the Stanford Medical Center, so the sum. doesn’t represent any fees on their part. Kasperak’s bill included $7,200 for 288 pints of blood, paid through his health insurance plan. A tremen dous amount of money, yet if he could have survived, his family would have felt that the price was worth it. No doubt it helped to advance the cause of medical science. More and more transplants will be taking place in the days ahead. God’s Word promises to give any man a new heart absolutely free. There is no danger to survival 26 A single track mind is not so bad just as long as the tracks leads upward.
Often a bent knee makes for a strong back.
IMMEDIATE ACCESS It was about 10 years ago that the Bell Telephone Company demonstrated its technique of bouncing electronic sig nals off the moon. Connecting telephone calls could be made from different parts of the nation as well as around the world. Then we have had the space satellite opening up new vistas of inter planetary communications. Think how fantastic it is to have a signal or a voice go from Los Angeles to New York, hitting the moon in between, all in less than five seconds. Such discov eries are amazing. It takes such a short time for a message of man to travel over so many thousands and thousands of miles, why is it hard to conceive of the immediate access to God any be liever has through prayer? There’s not even the five-second delay. As a mat ter of fact, the Bible reminds us that while we are yet speaking, the Lord answers. He knows the desires of our hearts before we even utter a word, and He answers according to His divine will. Annie Johnson Flint wrote these words of positive assurance, The place of prayer is high enough To bring heaven’s glory nigh, And our need speaks clear to our Fa ther’s ear, We are open to His eye.
Man’s greatest strength is often shown in his ability to stand still and trust.
