the Lord taught His disciples from the very beginning of His sojourn with them on the earth. They were to love one another. Note that John always speaks of love of the breth ren ; never of love to God. Every believer has proven how much more difficult it is to love one’s brethren than to love God. When one loves the brethren one has just about reached the top of the ladder of Christian de velopment, as seen in II Peter 1 :5-7. God will accept broken hearts but you must be willing to give Him all of the pieces. Christianity is like a nail, the more you hit it, the deeper it goes. Better than counting your years is to make sure that all of your years count. Men don’t reject the Bible because it contradicts itself but because it contra dicts them.
