In Bali, Liga Tennis is the answer for you. We have covered it all for you.

62 SPECIAL FEATURE Bali is one of the world’s most popular destinations. A romantic, green, deep blue, picturesque, photographic holiday paradise. All these features appeal to tourists, especially the exploration of the mystical world of Bali that charms everyone. We are setting off with the intention of spending a weekend in Ubud, and you get to see the story, the fun, the calmness of the area. You can head out into the countryside in a minute from the crowded streets of the main town, with paddy fields, the sight of farmers laboring, the chirp of cicadas, and a pastoral vibe.

68 NEIGHBORHOOD Balinese are extremely proud of their customs and traditions, and stick strictly to their codes of conduct within their society and families. They have the right to do so, since they are blessed with one of the most interesting traditions we can watch, learn and appreciate. One of them is being a Balinese man. What would make a man on the island stand out? Their traditional dancing, musical ability, or even the way they dressed, will really tickle your fancy.

88 John Hardy the brand started in 1975 when he visited Bali in the mid-1970s and the island's jewelry-making traditions raised his interest. He began learning the techniques of the local artisans then developed his first pieces by applying new design concepts to traditional Balinese techniques. After the jewelry line took over the world, Mr Hardy expanded himself to property business, and even an ethical school that is loved by many in Bali. PUBLISHER’S NOTE SARAH NATHAN

For our special section, Billy produced a comprehensive classy casual activity that big city people can do in Bali (pg. 26). For centuries, Bali has been known for a place to have a memorable tropical transit; surrounded by captivating culture and natural wonders. But in few years back, the island has expanded itself even further to cater big city tourists with plethora of outdoor activities to spend their precious getaway moment. Thus, in this article Billy present a handy guide for the Jakarta inhabitants (or other metropolis dwellers) about what kind of recreation they can have in-between their quiet and secluded holiday. This issue’s line up includes; The Abode of The Gods (pg. 74) discovering dying plateau, a perfectly picturesque location for sunrise seekers. Furthermore, for this issue neighbourhood section, we discuss about the Preservation of Pemutaran on one man’s effort to support sustainability (pg. 80). Last but not least, we take you on an extensive reminiscing journey of the amazing eco-conscious work of John Hardy for our spotlight section (pg. 88). From refined Jeweler to ‘Master of Bamboo’, John Hardy channelled his lifelong passion and talent to protecting the planet, one step at a time. In this issue, we present to you the compiled story of the amazing eco warrior who, despite of his age, is still going strong to increase environmental awareness across the globe, setting example through his fine sustainable establishment in Bali. As a whole of this issue, Hellobali’s team has thoroughly produced reasons to come back and visit Bali - highlighting how Bali travel businesses, hotels, restaurants, recreation spots and many more, have had to think on their feet, reopen, and adjust during this unsettling yet still hopeful time. Nonetheless, things continue to change that are beyond our control, but I am grateful for new days and my colleagues, friends and family. Not much more to it than that. I hope that reading this issue gives you license to dream, big. As always, please let me know what you think of the issue and tell us what you’d like to read.

MUA : Marcella Widita @marcellawiditamua Styled by : Deviana Maria @devianamaria A little fall magic from Hellobali’s team still working remotely and producing content on a monthly basis during the pandemic. No easy feat. Things change on a dime. We had a brilliant story on creatives in Sumba that we sadly had to hold. But as the world shifts so do we and in some ways, I find the uncertainty freeing, from a creative standpoint. I’m pushing myself to think of new angles, new voices, new places. This issue’s cover star is Dimitry Scherbakov (pg. 36), the mastermind behind the high-end facility of Liga Tennis Centre & Academy and shot by Steven Limnardo. Steven captures the magic of Dimitry, weighing on the prospect of tennis to become the new favourite recreational activity, for locals and internationals alike. As does both of our editors Cheryl Marella and Billy Bagus with their words, profiling such an uprising recreation business in Bali during Covid-19 and artisans in this stunning area of the island.

Living up for their commitment to continuously develop fine wine for the masses, Hatten Wines proudly announce with great delight the 'new look' of their finest ranges. NEW LOOK, REFINED TASTE

To celebrate their long and prestigious history, Hatten Wines introduces a bold update on their branding and products. The new look reflects to the quality of their wines and conveys a positive outlook to the next chapter of their story. The updated bottle labels for the Hatten stills wines which are: AGA Rosé, AGA Red, AGA White and Sweet Alexandria showcase Bali’s natural beauty. The sun is a tribute to the ever-present backdrop to all lives on Bali. Fire and water are dominant aspects of the landscape and contribute to fertile soil for Hatten's vineyards. The orange and blue represent the relationship with nature; with each label depicting a unique attribute of our beloved home island. The updated bottle labels for the Hatten Sparkling wines highlight Bali’s unique identity. The sun against the sea is the ever-present backdrop to the island’s immaculate tropical atmosphere and as day become night the experience shifts from one mode to another. Finally, Pino de Bali is a bottle of sunshine- -the consistent symbol for Hatten Wines. The clean and simple label contrasts against the rich and complex layering of the brands award winning fortified wine "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts", this famous quote by Aristotle could perfectly defines the philosophy of Hatten's blending wine. By blending the varieties, Hatten believe they can make better, more complete and expressive wines. To this end, over the past 15 years Hatten have been researching and planting new varieties in their vineyards which are the first to be grown in Indonesia. Varieties have been chosen for their suitability to Bali terroir and for wine style drinkability in the tropics climate. These new wine varieties appear in the blends with the relaunch of Hatten Wines core ranges (4 of still wines, 2 of sparkling wines and 1 fortified wine). Hatten Wines have a revamped and revitalized ranges showcasing both local heritage and international grape varieties, all grown in their vast Northern Bali vineyard, which have been continuously improved both in taste and quality

throughout the years under the supervision of their prominent Oenologist, James Kalleske. With over 26 years established in the market throughout Bali and the rest of Indonesia, Hatten believe that these wines have finally matched the look and label with the improvement and quality of the products.

something for everyone. The full glass wall makes it easy for you to watch tennis on all our courts. Together with high-speed internet, the Tennis café is a grand slam. “Well, personally I started to play tennis less than 4 years ago when I picked up the racket for the first time. I fell in love with this sport from the first touch. Back in 2016, tennis in Bali was undeveloped: no community, no tournaments, no leagues and almost no proper facilities” explains Dmitri Shcherbakov, the founder and owner of Liga Tennis Center & Academy. “So on February 14, 2017 we founded a free of charge Liga.Tennis App. Liga. Tennis is a community that helps players keep track of their improvement through regular competitive games and puts local players in touch, allowing users to post and share tennis-related content and follow

That’s why they have decided to introduce their community with fun and exciting off- court activities. They watch live matches together, engage in social and charity projects, and hear this, they even gather to do other sports together! The Tennis café @ LTCA is the place where all tennis enthusiasts gather to have a drink, meal or socialize. each other's activities. Shortly after the platform was launched, the majority of Bali-based amateur tennis players joined us. Basically, the App united tennis lovers on the Island” Reaching far beyond Bali, Liga.Tennis aims to be a fast-growing worldwide tennis community which helps players to keep track of their improvement through regular competitive games. As a social network, the aforementioned Liga.Tennis Apps puts local players in touch; allowing users to post & share tennis related content and follow each other's activities. There are also various features available for advanced users: tennis leaders, academies, coaches, courts, etc. Liga.Tennis Apps is free of charge, and there are no obligations for all parties. As expected, with the launch of the Liga.Tennis community, the situation has improved. Tennis lovers were able to play with each other, communicate through the app, and so on. However, Liga.Tennis App did not solve the problem of tennis infrastructure: we still did not have enough tennis courts, academies, schools, tournaments, etc.

Once they organized the tennis community, Dmitri started to think about building a proper tennis center. He realized that there are dozens, if not hundreds; of cafes, hotels, villas, and beach clubs opening in Bali every year, but no sports facilities. He believes that Bali is very much in need of a tennis Centre and a specialized academy. That’s how he came up with this brilliant idea. Dmitri continues his story of how he became addicted to tennis and it became a money making passion. Before 2016 when he picked up the tennis racket for the first time, he was playing football on a recreational level. But since then, he has completely shifted to tennis. He finds tennis to be one of the best sports on the planet. It has various benefits for health, mind and it’s just fun to play. For example, according to a 2016 Harvard University study, playing just 3 hours/week will reduce your risk of heart disease 56%. It’s also a life-time sport where people can play up until they are in their 80s. But why did he pick Bali to establish his passion project? “First and foremost—but simple reason: I lived here with my wife (she is Balinese) and son. I love Bali, I love Indonesia and I consider this place as my home after 10 years being here. Secondly, as I explained earlier, with the help of Liga. Tennis App we had united a tennis community, and then the idea of building a tennis center had eventually arrived” he explains. Furthermore, Dimitry also share his thought of ho to change the local people mindset and draw their interest to tennis as recreational sport. "People can find new friends through tennis. They get in touch on the App and then they meet during match play, joining one of group activities or watching a tennis match at LTCA. And then comes the affordable rates. You can rent a court starting with 100k / hour. So if you play doubles (4 players) it would cost 25k per person. With the launching of TouchTennis; our newly opened 2 touch tennis courts, it becomes even more affordable for court booking at only 50k per hours including rackets & balls. So for double matches is as little as 12,5k per hour per person!" he explains. Addressing to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dimitry also stated that LTCA has issued some strict safety measures for their beloved customers and staff. “(Regarding the COVID-19 issue), all of us here at LTCA consider it very seriously. As a business, we must be responsible to protect

ahead for LTCA. After a successful start in Canggu, they are currently aiming to open the similar high-end facility in the island. "Good news for tennis lovers from Sanur, Denpasar and Gianyar. We are going to build another tennis center with 6 courts and clubhouse in 2021 in Sanur" says Dimitry. Regarding the tournament, he also stated that LTCA has planned to adjust their event with a more suitable format. "Due to the pandemic situation, this year we are introducing our new event with a suitable format - Liga.Tennis Championship 2020. With the exception of finals, each tournament round match will be played within a specified timeframe. So we won’t gather people and they will have to get in touch with each other for their each tournament match.”

our guests and staff. Therefore, we have applied a new norm protocol: wash basins at the entrance, antiseptics everywhere, temperature check, limited number of people on courts, coaches to use face masks during junior academy lessons and so on” He also believed that tennis—aside from all its healthy benefit, is the perfect form of ‘social distancing’ activity. “I’m confident that tennis is, maybe, the best sport to play during a pandemic due to its distance and no physical contact. As you know tennis is a very “lonely” sport. Considering the size of the court you are very far from your partner or coach. I also believe that if people remain active and play tennis, it can boost their immune system” Can’t argue with that one! There are also apparently great plans

To add the icing to the cake, In December last year, ATP #1 Men Tennis Champion Novak Djokovic had a short holiday in Ubud, and LTCA couldn’t miss such a unique chance to invite one of the greatest players of all time to visit Liga. Tennis Center & Academy, so they made it happen. During his visit to the tennis center, Dimitry explains, Novak was kind enough to hit some balls with local junior players and spend some time with the tennis community here. The next day after visiting Liga.Tennis Center, the 16-time Grand Slam champion posted about it on his social media, putting Bali & Indonesia on the world’s tennis map! “It was the first time for Novak and his wife Jelena to come to Indonesia” said Dimitry. “They loved Bali, and I predicts, they will come back” he optimistically concluded.
