This is such a busy term and we are hurtling towards the summer break, with only three more weeks of term. On Monday the Year 9s continued their exploration of the Surrey wilderness with their HEADTEACHER’S MESSAGE

A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEADTEACHER

Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and our Year 7 pupils had workshops with the charity Show Racism the Red Card. We also had our Headgirl interviews, which following the excellent hustings speeches we knew would be impressive. The GCSE and A-level exams are all over and we have had internal exams for Year 10 this week. Well done to everyone for their cool heads and hard work. It was wonderful to celebrate with Year 11 last night at the Prom. Photos will be shared next week. I am proud to share that yesterday a team of Year 8 pupils, Shrivarshini, Shivali and Milena, were announced as placing third out of over 600 entries in the Young Coders Competition 2025. They were praised by the judges for coding complexity, well done! Year 12 History students enjoyed a trip to the National Archives in Kew yesterday, where they got to see first hand original Tudor documents, enriching their study of Tudor Rebellions. Today is Sports Day, where everyone comes together to try their best and cheer on their houses. I look forward to seeing some great teamwork and peer support on the sports fields. We will share full results and photos in the bulletin and on our social media channels next week.

The last week in June is World Wellbeing Week, which was established in 2020 in response to the Pandemic. Five years on the main focus is about workplace wellbeing but World Wellbeing Week offers a crucial opportunity to pause, reflect, and actively invest in our overall wellness. At Waldegrave this fits with our annual Sports Day, which not only highlights the importance of physical activity but also gives us the opportunity to get out into our beautiful grounds and spend time together as a community. It’s a great opportunity for us to embrace some of the Five Ways to Wellbeing together, as a school. The Five Ways to Wellbeing were developed by the New Economics Foundation, and they’re based in evidence and research. The Five Ways are: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give and this video explains them in a really user-friendly way: 5 Ways to Wellbeing.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

We have once again had a busy week in Year 8. Last week Year 8 showcased their talents at the Dance Show. We are very proud of our dancers and it was wonderful to see everyone’s hard work pay off - Thank you to our fabulous Performing Arts Department for making this happen. This week’s form time has been dedicated to ‘Women in Engineering’, as Women in Engineering Day took place on 23rd June. On Monday, the Year 8s had a special guest speaker, who talked about her career pathway in engineering. She shared her experiences working at BP and how she enjoyed travelling the world as a pressure engineer. The students found her talk inspiring and gained a better understanding of the diverse opportunities available to engineers. On Tuesday, during form time the students discussed common stereotypes about engineering, mainly focusing on its association with being a predominantly male profession. Topping our individual epraise leaderboard this week is Nadja K (8FFR), Anouska W (8FFR), Alice B (8FFR) - well done! The Year 8 total is currently exceeding 19,500 points achieved since September - which is fantastic!

This week Year 8 have been busy putting together their teams for sports day. There has been a real buzz around the school. Franklin, Pankhurst, Seacole, and Eliot houses will all be in action (today) and I shall be sharing the results and successes next week. With ‘Enjoy’ being a key aim of the school, we hope all students participate and show great house spirit.

‘Arsenic For Tea’ by Robin Stevens A murder-mystery, with two curious girls as the main protagonists – Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong. As chaos unfolds around them, they try to solve the clues like full-on detectives, but unpaid, of course. Daisy’s mother throws a tea party, with the whole family invited but when one of them mysteriously falls ill with food poisoning and then passes away Wells and Wong are suspicious. Who could have done it, and how? The book is a thrilling read, as you unpick the clues with our protagonists. To suspect a character and find out the truth is a whole adventure without having to leave home. I picked this book from the series specifically because of how suspenseful it was. Almost every character seemed like the culprit, every single one of them acted edgy, so it was even harder to work out. This is the second book in the series, so I recommend reading the first book first, but there are other books in the series as well, so if you enjoyed this one, there are many more to enjoy! Year 7 Cricket

Last Friday our Year 7 cricket team played against Turing House. Waldegrave batted first and scored 38 runs losing 4 wickets. Turing House battled right up to the final over, when Avani V came into bowl and only conceded 2 runs which kept the Turing House score to 35 for 4 wickets. Well done, Grace B, Gracie B, Jessie C, Beatrice H, Esha K, Georgia L, Aki M, Ettie M, Sakeena M, Molly O, Mel P, Ava S, Ariana V for their excellent team work. Last week we celebrated some of the key achievements we had at the 2025 London Borough Schools Athletics Championships at St Mary’s University. We brought home four medals: Gold - Jasmine G (Y10, 1500m), Harper M (Y9, High Jump), Olivia D (Y9, Discus) and Silver - Mia N (Y10, Girls Long Jump). We are very proud of the efforts of every member of our team who all tried their hardest and represented our school.

Tomorrow is our annual Sports Day, we will include a full round up of photos and results in next week’s bulletin.

BEHAVIOUR FOCUS

For the Summer Term the school’s leadership team has chosen to focus on our First Rule at Waldegrave: Respect and value learning, each other and our environment. As part of this we are asking students to respect and value learning, putting aside distractions and following our uniform policy by wearing the correct uniform at all times.
