Alleyn Club Yearbook 2018

Cronk Cunis Festival Omar Nasir OA (04 - 15) Held at Richmond Rugby Club, The Cronk Cunis Festival is a National Under 21 rugby competition. It is an annual one-day event for former pupils of state and independent rugby playing schools. It is a hugely popular tournament and a great reunion occasion with boys from three separate year groups coming together for the day. The Old Alleynian side performed extremely well throughout the day, rolling back the years with fast flowing rugby coupled with our infamous driving maul. The group stage saw us brush aside Bromsgrove and KCS Wimbledon, before conceding a late try to deny us of a win against RGS High Wycombe. Given our two wins beforehand, we progressed to the knockout stages of the tournament. By this point, university life alongside a severe lack of replacements, began to

take its toll on a large proportion of our team. However, in true Dulwich spirit, the team found the resolve to beat a strong Tonbridge side in the Quarter Finals. The Semi Finals was unfortunately one step too far as we lost to the hands of a skilled Hampton squad, who would go on to win the tournament. There was a real sense of

frustration after the match as we knew that had we had a few more replacements, the result may have been different. We went on to beat Judd in the 3rd/4th playoff, to finish a thoroughly enjoyable day. I would like to thank all those involved and would highly recommend the tournament to the Old Alleynians that follow. Jerry Watson (71-78) (74th), Steve Georgiadis (74-81) (75th) and Mike Burton (70-78) (79th) whose combined scores were enough for us to retain the Chris Chataway Cup for Over 50s. Rob Rider (77-83) (115), Dan Wade (92-99) (129) and Mark Hutchings (77-84) (211th) completed our team and with Tom placing as high as he did we also placed third in the Over 40s event. Great credit must go to Mike (who last competed in this race over 35 years ago) and Rob, who had travelled from Armagh in Northern Ireland and Berlin respectively to take part. The race in 2018 looks as though it will be on 15 December. Put the date in your diary and make it your New Year’s resolution to get fit.

25 minutes and looked as fresh as he did when the gun went. The back markers took over an hour and were perhaps not quite as sprightly as they had been sixty minutes earlier.

The threatened rain held off as the record field of 280 runners representing 38 alumni teams from across the country took on the challenging five mile course over Wimbledon Common. After a week of rain, conditions were perfect for muddy cross country. The overall winner came home in a little over

The OA turn-out was the best in recent years with seven athletes taking to the start line. Our top finisher in 47th was Tom South who turned down the opportunity to run for his ‘other’ Dulwich club in the South of the Thames Championships to take part.
