Transparency, accountability and sustainability are some of the words frequently used by Lynda Lemieux, one of the six candidates looking to fill the three spots for Ward 2 of Alfred- Plantagenet, in the upcoming October municipal elections. “I am looking forward to be more a part of the community, to help out, and I’m look- ing towards transparency, accountability and sustainability to ensure this area is in good shape for years to come,” explained Lemieux. The candidate from Plantagenet has lived in the area her whole life. She currently works as a foot care technician XJUI%S(VZ8JMMJBNT BTBOFOUSFQSFOFVS with her own private clinic and also works at a natural health clinic in Hawkesbury. CANADA REVENUE AGENCY SCAM PERSISTS
Certains conseillers scolaires de la région n’auront pas d’opposition lors des élections scolaires d’octobre prochain. Gilles Fournier a été élu sans opposition comme conseiller scolaire pour le Conseil des écoles publiques de l’est de l’Ontario (CEPEO) pour la Ville de Hawkesbury, le Canton de Champlain, Hawkesbury Est et Alfred-Plantagenet. André-Paul Lalonde a été élu sans concurrent pour le Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien (CSDCEO) pour la Ville de Hawkesbury et Sergine Rachelle Bouchard a aussi été élue sans opposition pour la CSDCEO. Elle représentera Champlain et Hawkesbury Est. Le conseil du canton de Champlain veut organiser une discussion avec des représentants du Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien (CSDCEO) concernant l’avenir de l’annexe de la Maison des Jeunes de l’école catholique Saint-Jean-Baptiste de L’Orignal et la patinoire extérieure située dans l’enceinte de l’école. Les réparations de l’ancien bâtiment sont estimées à 38 000 $. La question est de savoir s’il faut rénover le bâtiment L’AVENIR POUR LA MAISON DES JEUNES
The OPP is cautioning citizens against a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) scam that persists in the region. Suspects call residents advising that if they do not pay owed money they can be arrested. This summer a Limoges area woman was contacted by a “CRA officer” advising there were four allegations and that she would be brought to court. The complai- nant then received a call from what she believed to be the OPP’s local number. Suspects posed as a police officer demanding her SIN number. The OPP confirms that they would not make such calls and advises residents to not give out personal information. PUBLIC WORKS RADIO SYSTEM Champlain Township council approved a contract with Capital Controls and Ins- truments Inc. for a radio communication system for the public works department, with the wastewater treatment plants in the villages of L’Orignal and Vankleek Hill. The original contract value is $184,548 but may be reduced to $155,000 plus the HST, through a later change order to modify the scope of the project as needed. The company was the sole bidder for the project tender call. – Gregg Chamberlain
