BIBLE INSTITUTE OF LOS ANGELES MARCH 25, 1944

Our tents are heated, so we make out quite well. Those of us who know the Lord Jesus Christ are persuaded that He is over all, and above all earthly power and wisdom. Thank God for this comfort and hope.” From somewhere ih Italy, Cor poral Lawrence Peet, B. Th. ’40, writes: I have seen quite a bit of action, and have experienced His protection. I write the jour nal which is a record of all bat tles. We keep tab on what is go ing on!” . David Cowles writes: “We spent four months in Australia —found the churches very good. Sometimes after the e v e n i n g church s e rv ic e we were served tea, but no ice cream. A ll that is past now. I haven’t been to any kind of a service since we l e f t Australia. We are on the move all the time.” To our knowledge, only one member of the Biola Family has been killed in action. Lt. Rich ard P. Hjorth, ’43, was called into the presence of the Lord from the Asiatic field of -battle in the fall df 1943. Let us pray that God may be glorified by every Biola service man whether in life 6 i in death. Our call in this hour of global conflict is a call to PRAYER. For further interesting devel opments which are not military secrets turn to page 159. Prayerfully yours,

Here is news from Bill C. Leh man. "A few months ago I was pushed aboard a big banana boat and thence to this piece of land in the Pacific Ocean. When this war is all over, you can look for me at- Bioia’s registration day. What a registration day that will be!” Are yo„u listening, members of the class of 1925? Chaplain Ken neth E. Couch, ’25, wants to hear ffom his fellow classmates. He may be addressed in care of Special Troops Headquarters A. P. O. 94, Camp McCain, Miss. Lt. “Thou therefore endure hard ness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” A large number of Bioia’s stu dent body and a host of gradu ates and former students are now serving in the Armed Forces as good soldiers of Jesus Christ. Their letters have oome to us from all over the world. Pull up a chair, and we shall read some. Corporal Chester Englund, ’39, writes from Italy: “Your letter brought back to memory the blessed days spent at Biola— the classes, devotfonals, and Chris tian fellowship. How I long for it now, when it is so hard to find. I do hope and pray that not all groups are as godless as mine. Thank God for good Chap lains, though!” Chaplain John W. Kopp, ’33, is now stationed at the U. S. Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island, Wash., after ten months on vari ous islands in Alaskan waters. Concerning Attu Island, he says: “Some of the most delicate flow ers I have ever seen were grow ing beside ugly shell holes on the battlefields. On my last Sun day night at Attu, six men ac cepted Christ as their Saviour, and that, to me, was the best send-off I could desire.,” Listen to this one: “ I am on an island *n the Pacific that has been getting considerable pub licity of late. I have seen action and have learned to recognize the whistle of falling bombs. One surely respects them. I do not have any Christian friends with whom to have fellowship and prayer. But I dof have one Friend who is closer than a brother and He is ever near to strengthen and to help me.” —Signed, Wes Van Nattan.

first time. “They say that they are one of the trickiest fighter planes to land that we have. Well, I used to make the final glide into the field h a v i n g ju st p r a y e d ,

Aren't you glad to see Helen White's signature? Her labor of love went into the writing of this month's letter. Look for other old and new friends in these columns in coming months. DICK HILLIS.

‘God help me to land this heap.’ God answers short prayers that are real. Believe me, those few words were sincere. I always like to feel that I’m not alone in the- cockpit.” Corporal Waldo Balzer tells of the Yanks having been hosts to thousands of British children in England. He had the privilege of bringing Christmas joy to a sev en-year-old girl and an eleven- year-old boy who had grown up experiencing air r a i d s and black-outs. Corporal Balzer has been assigned to a bombardment group, and reports an increased interest -in spiritual m a t t e r s among the combat personnel. May he be used to point ,many to the' Captain of salvation. Private Lester E. Janzen is with the Army in the Aleutians, where freezing weather is sy nonymous with living. He says: “The clothinj we are issued con tains plenty of,wool; we sleep in sleeping bags.' (No white sheets and pillowcases for us.)
