SUMMARY OF FINDINGS Figure 1 visually illustrates components of the study lifecycle with each colored block representing a distinct area of focus. The divisions per area indicate content-related summarized categories and their relative volume (based on the number of items named on each category in parentheses).
The study lifecycle components “Sampling & Weighting” (14) and “Survey Operations” and “Analysis & Reporting” (each 13) are the ones with the most harmonization topics mentioned by the different stakeholders, highlighting a strong emphasis on survey design, execution, and analysis. For all study lifecycle phases potential topics were listed, areas “Scaling” and “Instrument Development” with the fewest (five each).
STRUCTURED DIALOGUE: STEERING COMMITTEE MEETINGS Since July 2024, semi-annual Steering Committee meetings bring together all International Study Directors with IEA leadership (Dirk Hastedt, Andrea Netten, and Juliane Hencke). These meetings—alternating between virtual and in-person—offer a platform to:
• Share planned developments across studies for early harmonization opportunities. • Present updates and gather feedback on ongoing harmonization topics. • Raise new issues collaboratively.
