EDUCATION MATTERS

ERCE 2025: SOFTWARE TOOLS AND SUPPORT FOR DATA PROCESSING The Estudio Regional Comparativo y Explicativo (ERCE), coordinated by UNESCO's Latin American Laboratory for Assessment of the Quality of Education (LLECE), is a regional assessment that monitors learning outcomes in Latin America and the Caribbean in the areas of reading, mathematics, and science. IEA has continued its collaboration with LLECE in support of the fourth round of ERCE. This year, a new feature was introduced to the within-school sampling software to support the tracking of migration status within a specially selected oversample of students. A dedicated ERCE 2025 version of the DME data entry software, along with codebooks for the main survey, was also developed. Ongoing support for ERCE focuses on assisting in the improvement of data processing, including reviewing cleaning steps, adding automated checks, and standardizing procedures.

LOOKING AHEAD Moving forward, as LaNA welcomes its new International Study Director, Dana Kelly, the Capacity Building Team has begun planning the next phase of LaNA’s development and continued outreach. Current efforts include preparations for future LaNA administrations and work to enhance the scope of the context questionnaires (see page 28). Looking ahead to the second half of 2025 and beyond, the Capacity Building Team will continue its efforts to foster collaboration and provide technical support for education systems in working with accessible and high-quality assessment data. ■
