EDUCATION MATTERS
E
The IRC 2025 featured four keynote speakers, each one touching on the theme of sustainability in their own way. Henry Braun presented new possibilities for data analysis that can help improve relevance of data for policy and, therefore, sustain the impact of IEA data. Gabriella Agrusti discussed how IEA data can help measure progress in student outcomes toward a sustainable future, and gave examples of how teachers and schools can enhance students’ understanding of sustainability. Renata Viganó highlighted how education can drive social change, with education research being a resource for sustainable futures by offering evidence-backed insights from large-scale assessments. Finally, Aaron Benavot offered perspectives on the greening of education, focusing on recent cross-national research on the “greening” of school curriculums. The IRC in Rome was an opportunity for us to get inspired, reflect, and renew our understanding and ambitions. We gathered, shared, and appreciated the ongoing and vast work invested in developing IEA studies and improving their implementation, advancing analytical methods for analyzing data, and using study results to tailor educational policies and classroom practices. From the IEA perspective we very much appreciated the support from IEA member institution representatives. We extend a special thanks to our IRC hosts, and to those individuals who engaged with the IRC and supported it as session chairs and discussants. Thank you for making the 11th IRC a success! ■
