Reading Comprehension Matters: Connecting Research with Practice to Highlight Reading Principles on Paper and Digitally
BY LAURA CHEESEMAN, PAULA KORŠNˇ ÁKOVÁ, & ANDREA NETTEN
Teachers matter and IEA is committed to making study findings accessible to teachers in a way that is practical and relevant for their needs. IEA’s Research for Educators and Teacher Snippets are key ways in which the connection between education research and education practice is made. The Dutch Center for Language Education (who have authored both current volumes in the Research for Educators series) translates research into practical and effective practices, solutions, and training for teaching reading comprehension.
Volume One in the Research for Educators series focuses on connecting theory and teaching practice when teaching reading comprehension from paper texts has received a wealth of use having been accessed over 150,000 times (at the time of publication). Teachers also have access to passages from PIRLS 2016, a scoring guide, and country data which they can use in the classroom, and an accompanying Teacher Snippet which highlights
five key principles for teaching reading comprehension for paper texts.
IEA would like to attribute the outstanding success of the first volume to members and partners who have disseminated, translated, and highlighted the book within their networks. It shows how teachers can benefit from and use insights from IEA studies.
Volume 1 in the IEA Research for Educators series is currently available in four languages.
