Th e One by One Worki ng Band I have been asked by the founder o f the One by One Working Band to receive and forward to him the names of persoris who wish to be erirolled as members. If you desire to be enrolled as a member of this Band of Christian workers for the year January-December, 1914, please send me your name and address and the membership fee for the year, twenty-five cents. If you desire further information regarding our Band and its work, or literature to use in asking others to join the Band, let me know. This Band was founded in England by Thomas Hogben in-1888. Over 50,000 persons have been enrolled as members. It now has members working in eighty-two different countries, its aim is to aid Christians in the work of bringing unsaved souls to Christ by definite prayer and personal effort. Every member is supplied with a “ Throne of Grace Book” and the quarterly magazine. The at tention of members is called to books and tracts that have influenced multitudes of Christians to enter upon the work of bring ing men to Christ and have helped to make them wise to win souls. The Advisory Council of the Band, which includes such men as J. Wilbur Chapman, A. C. Dixon, F. B. Meyer and R. A. Torrey, “appeals to all Christians to consider the privilege and the duty of following the one by one plan for seeking and saving the lost.” At a recent meeting the Council adopted this resolution: "We gratefully acknowledge that during nearly twenty-five years this Band has successfully stood for personal soul win ning, and the unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ; and that its practical value has been abundantly proved through the large number of testimonies given by its members, who have been made wise to win souls.” Dr. Torrey says: "The world will never be evangelized by public preaching, only by Individual effort. Mr. Richards, of Banza Mateka, doyen of the missionary body on the Congo, re ports that never has he seen, in his long missionary experience, such extraordinary interest among the natives. Everywhere not only Protestants, but heathen, and even Catholics, listen with profound interest. Once it was with difficulty that one could fill a mission church, but now the blacks leave everything to come to hear Mambu ma Nzambi—the Word o f God. A Chinese minister o f the mission church at Cheefoo, China, recently left that city to return to his old home in the western part o f Shantung province. On his ar rival among his former neighbors he was instant in season and out of season in tell ing the cause o f the joy which had come to his life arid in proclaiming Christ among the people. The interest aroused in the village was so keen that the citizens speedily sent a message to Cheefoo requesting that some preacher be sent to explain the way of Christ to them more fully. Pastor Wen was accordingly dispatched to the aid of his zealous parishioner and like Barnabas coming to Antioch had abundant occasion to thank God for what he found. The principal men of, the village, - though they had not definitely accepted the Gospel, had all renounced their idols and had turned the temples into school houses and the temple grounds into parks. The young priests had been ordered out o f town and told to go and earn their own living, while the old priests were informed that they might remain in the temples if they were willing to work.
