A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
This week saw the first of our Drop Down Days when the school timetable is suspended and our focus shifts onto other areas of life. Year 7 embodied the ‘Enjoy’ aspect of our school ethos with a visit to the Kingston Rotunda to watch ‘Elemental’ at the cinema and play bowling. The students behaved very well and the day was hugely enjoyable. Leading the way in this week’s housepoint chart was 7EDA with 39 Housepoints. 7FFR were in second with 33 followed by 7SHH with 21. Please let us know of any external achievements or events that your child might have been involved in so that we can celebrate their success too. On the last day of the half term, Friday 20 October, Year 7 students are invited to wear anything pink to raise money and awareness for breast cancer charities. Year 7 students do not need to wear uniforms on this day but can come to school with clothing and accessories as pink as possible! Please note that students should not buy anything for this day - a pink ribbon or badge is fine. Make up, varnish and hair dye is NOT allowed however. A voluntary contribution for the charity can be made via ParentPay.

Meet Trailblazer Candice Carty-Williams
She became the first black author to win book of the year at the British Book Awards.
Before writing her first novel she worked in publishing where she noticed how few people of colour there were writing and publishing books. So she took action and created the Guardian and 4th Estate BAME Short Story Prize, to improve the diversity of the publishing world “I am proud yes but I’m also sad and confused that I’m the first black AND female author to have won this award since it began,” she continued. “Overall, this win makes me hopeful that although I’m the first, the industry are waking up to the fact that I shouldn’t and won’t be the last.”
