SERVICES FOR THE HOMELESS Bethlehem House
Who’s it for? Bethlehem House provides crisis and transitional accommodation for men experiencing homelessness in Tasmania. More than just a shelter, it is a place of safety, dignity and hope, where residents are supported to rebuild their lives. How We Help In 2024-25, 154 residents (and two dogs) were supported through Bethlehem House, with 66% moving into secure housing, 18% gaining employment, and 13 residents participating in employment training. Residents benefit from 24-hour on-site support, delivered through a case management model, supplemented by addiction counselling, cooking and art therapy classes, plus access to gym facilities, walking groups, and our Employment Hub. This year marked the first full year of operations in the new Homes Tasmania building in Harrington St Hobart, giving residents a modern and safe environment to stabilise and take steps towards independence across the three campuses of Bethlehem House. Bethlehem House also launched its Employability Program in partnership with MAX Employment, which saw residents complete nationally recognised qualifications and move into work. The program’s success, funded generously by the Order of St John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller, earned the Industry Collaboration Award at the Skills Tasmania Training Awards in September 2024.
