NORTH WEST HOUSING

Who’s it for? The St Vincent de Paul Society Tasmania provides safe, stable housing for people who have faced prolonged housing insecurity or live with disability on Tasmania’s north west coast. Through its partnerships and owned properties, the Society ensures access to affordable and appropriate accommodation where tenants can live with dignity and independence. How We Help The Society’s housing portfolio in the North West region includes two sites - Rosalie Court in Smithton and Cape Country in Wynyard. At Rosalie Court, 34 tenants over 55 years of age are accommodated through a partnership between SVDP Tas, Loreto Housing and Homes Tasmania. This large complex of 28 villa units delivers a vibrant new community setting in Circular Head for a mix of tenants comprising individuals and couples, including ten people with special needs or on the Disability Support Pension. For some this is a transition to a secure and stable home after years on the social housing waitlist. Since the first tenants moved in during June 2024, the site has become a supportive community where tenants have access to wellbeing services through Loreto Housing and receive additional support from the Society through our Vinnies Van, the Smithton Community Hub pantry, and local Vincentian conference assistance. Our Cape Country accommodation in Wynyard is a longstanding initiative first established by our Vincentian Members in 1995, offering a 12-unit village complex with surrounding gardens. These one and two-bedroom

units provide long-term housing for people living with disability, providing suitable amenity on this ideal site. Many residents took up occupancy more than two decades ago, reflecting the sense of belonging and stability the complex provides. Six tenants are also employed at Vincent Industries, one of the Society’s social enterprises operating nearby, further strengthening their independence and community connection.

I didn’t realise how much not having a home was affecting me until I moved my belongings in. I sleep better and feel like I belong somewhere. Rosalie Court tenant
