Innovation, learning and standards The 2024 FMB National Conference, held in September in Lincoln, attracted members from across the UK. There was a strong NI presence, with three NI board members making the journey. FMB NI President, Steven Nickell, FMB Past President, Willie Moffitt, and FMB National Board representative member, Mark Gribben, all contributed to the conference. Those who attended spoke of the value they received from a workshop, chaired by Willie, about next steps on the Future Homes Standard. Stressing the need for innovation, continued learning and high standards, Willie reassured those present that these are all achievable objectives. The networking, shared learnings and friendships that come from such events are a reminder that an FMB membership provides unique opportunities to grow your business. FMB NI extends thanks to all its members who took time away from their business to attend the conference.

Willie Moffitt shares ideas at the FMB National Conference
End of an era for the CPG
SCOTLAND
FMB Scotland has run the Scottish Parliament’s Construction Cross- Party Group (CPG) for six years. Scotland Director, Gordon Nelson, stepped down from his role as CPG Secretary in November, a position he held since being voted in by Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) and various stakeholders in the construction industry in 2018. Alongside convener Monica Lennon MSP, Gordon has guided the group’s work, addressing important industry topics, such as: ● Licensing in construction ● Scotland’s apprenticeship system
and training provision ● Materials and supply chain challenges ● Decarbonising buildings.

Lennon said: “Gordon has done the FMB a huge credit during his time as our Secretary. He ensured the group functioned through Covid and I have enjoyed working with him. Thankfully, the FMB remains a member of the group, so I am sure we will see Gordon at future meetings. On behalf of the CPG, I thank Gordon for his exceptional advice and support over the years.”
