EGSA 2026 Course Catalog

EGSA’s Onsite Power Generation School (Advanced) The Advanced School is tailored for professionals who already have a solid foundation in generator system fundamentals. This program builds on that knowledge, focusing on specialized topics dealing with the theory, design, manufacturing, and operation of alternators, automatic voltage regulators, speed and load controls, generator system protection, automatic transfer switches, switchgear, noise control technology, engine emissions, and system communications. Instruction begins with the alternator (“gen-end”) and culminates in the process of sizing a generator for real-world applications. This course is especially valuable for specifying engineers, project managers, service professionals, and business owners who want to sharpen their technical expertise and expand their practical skillset.

Learning Objectives: l Understand the role and maintenance requirements of special generator components like alternators, governors, voltage regulators, and communication systems. l Describe different electrical faults to include transients, harmonics, overcurrent and ground faults. l Understand how to parallel multiple generators in theory, understand basic workflow procedures, and best practices. l Recognize and articulate the differences between types of low and medium voltage electrical equipment and safety precautions associated with each type. l Grasp the different types of switchgear to include standard, closed transition, isolation bypass, and parallelling switchgear.
