was not his own. He fully belonged to God. What John possessed couldn't be bought with money or achieved by artificial, earthly means. John had a deep, pure, genuine, and holy relationship with his Heavenly Father. That relationship was only attained through a life Driven By Prayer! My heart for this book is that you would become so passionate about prayer that it would drive your every waking moment and that you would realize communing with the Father is what we were all created to do. He longs to speak with you and for you to long for Him, too! Through this divine Spirit, you’ll realize prayer propels us forward and gives life to every dream we have. As oxygen gives life to our lungs and blood gives life to the body, prayer gives life to our spirit and connects us right to the heart of the Father. May the words written on the pages of this book greatly impact you and challenge you to live a life Driven By Prayer.
than anything else. Again, "Lord, teach us to pray!" They began to learn the vital importance of being Driven By Prayer. Charles Spurgeon wrote, "Groanings that cannot be uttered are often prayers that cannot be refused." May we all be driven by a spirit of prayer! What did Jesus say about John the Baptist? As a man who lived a life devoted to prayer, alone in the wilderness, he passionately and unapologetically pursued God with his entire being. He was clothed in camel's hair, girded with a leather belt (not Gucci), and he didn’t really give two hoots about whether anyone liked him or approved of his life. He regularly ate a diet of locusts and wild honey. And yet, Jesus said of this man, “There has been none born of women greater than John the Baptist.” Even Herod, a heathen king who feared no one, actually feared John the Baptist. Mark writes in chapter 6, verse 20, "Herod feared John, for he knew he was a just and holy man, and he protected him. Herod enjoyed listening to John." It's easy to see that Herod knew there was something very unique about John; he had something that Herod wanted. Despite the king having accumulated worldly wealth, great influence, and numerous accolades, nothing seemed to satisfy him. Although John didn’t possess the worldly achievements that Herod had, Herod knew and truly recognized that what John possessed was far greater than all he had attained. John's life
would say that's the first miracle.) I must admit, I became emotional. Tears streamed down my face. As I sat in silence, still thinking we needed a million dollars to reach a million souls, the Lord softly replied in the stillness of the moment and said, "Bernie, you don't have a million-dollar prayer life!" It was there in that very moment that I realized my life was not Driven By Prayer! I remember what the Lord spoke to me years ago when He said, "Bernie, if you want to go where you've never gone so that you can see what you've never seen and do what you've never done, then you must be willing to pay a price you've never paid!” Jesus modeled a faithful life of prayer for us. The disciples could’ve asked Him many questions, such as, "Could you please teach us how to sustain this great ministry You've started?" or maybe, "Teach us how to grow our partner base so we can raise more support to bring this glorious Gospel around the world,” or, "Can you please teach us how to preach effectively like You do,” or even, “Teach us how to disciple others and handle religious and community leaders." I'm sure these questions would've all been good and well-intended. Surely, we would've understood why they’d asked these things, but none of these questions left their lips. The only question that truly plagued them was, "Lord, teach us to pray!" They saw their Lord and Savior model prayer so well that they wanted His prayer life more
