THAT’S A WRAP! Closing In On the Final Days of Summer
Live every day as if it were your last. The one thing that we don’t know is when our last day will be. So going into every day thinking it’s our last might be the best thing to do. Today, we don’t know how many more summer days we will live to see, how many holidays we can spend with our family, how many more birthdays we will celebrate, or how many more vacations we will take. But if we treat each as if it’s our last, we are forced to make the most out of every day, and, more importantly, the people around us will feel just how engaged we are. Smell the roses. We’ve had a lot of clients who have remained focused on work and trying to put more money away while striving to build the best possible retirement. In doing so, sometimes they miss out on actually enjoying all that retirement has to offer. And I know that I mentioned how planning is paramount, but even planning to relax and do the little things that you enjoy is important. You’ve worked so hard all your life and now it’s time to enjoy what you created. So, have a great rest of the summer and let us know if there’s anything we can do to help you enjoy your summer or even your retirement just a little bit more. And if you know someone that we can help, please don’t keep us a secret — if they are important to you, then they are important to us! Happy summer!
August is a great month with many things to celebrate like National Mountain Climbing Day on Aug. 1, National Work Like a Dog Day on Aug. 5, or one of my favorites, National Left Handers Day on Aug. 13. This one always holds a special place in my heart because my favorite person in the whole world is my wife, Kim, who is a left-hander. While my oldest son was growing up, I was at work a lot, and she was home with him. In the afternoons, she would play with him in the yard and ultimately taught him to throw with his left hand. Now, he is a Division I left-handed pitcher for the College of Charleston, throwing fastballs at about 90 mph. While this is serving him well, we are hopeful for his future in the pros! But let’s focus on August. It’s our last of the summer parties, beach days, cookouts, and fun in the sun. We all head back to work in September, or maybe not all of us since some of you have already retired and get to enjoy every day as a summer day — it’s well deserved because you likely worked about 90,000 hours to get there. Retirement is the best time of your life, and here are some tips to keep in mind. Planning is paramount. Whether it’s planning what to do tomorrow, this weekend, this year, or even this decade, the more you can plan, the more you can achieve. Even if you just achieve the fun things in life or check moments off of your bucket list, completing things that you’ve always wanted to do but never had the time for always feels great.

The Best Styles for Masking Hair Loss THROUGH THICK AND THIN
Everyone knows about male-pattern balding, but hair loss can come as a rude surprise to many women as they enter their 40s and 50s. Unfortunately, the lost hair rarely returns, but there are ways to look beautiful and confident despite a receding hairline or widening part. The right solution will depend on where you’ve experienced the most loss, so we’ve compiled several ways to draw attention back toward the locks you have left. Receding Hairline Women’s most common form of hair loss occurs around the temples. Fortunately, you have numerous options if your hairline is creeping farther back on your head. Bangs are a tried-and-true option to camouflage the problem, and side-swept bangs can make the tactic less obvious. Meanwhile, face-framing layers can help blend your thinning edges into your overall hairstyle, disguising them as a part of the cut. Finally, carefully placed headbands can look chic while also covering any problem areas. Loss of Volume Another common problem is the overall thinning of your hair. There may not be specific problem patches, but the hair looks limp and less
voluminous than before. While many think a longer style will make their hair look thicker, the opposite is true. Instead, try a blunt bob. The reduced weight will help lift roots, and the sharp edge along the bottom will help your hair appear fuller. Further, remember that it’s easier to create volume with your blow dryer and hair products when your hair is short. Thinning Patches Centralized hair loss is challenging to cover, but it’s not impossible! Women experiencing hair loss around their normal hair part will likely benefit from a zigzag or flipped side part to disguise the thinning. The head’s crown is another common location for bald patches. Try a top knot or high ponytail to hide the issue. Just be sure not to pull the hair too tight, or it could bring unwanted attention to other types of thinning. Every woman’s hair texture and volume are different, so you might need to experiment until you discover a style that works for you. Your best bet is to find a hairstylist you trust and ask their opinion. They’ll know which options will flatter or fall flat.
ARE YOU IN OR NEAR RETIREMENT?
Avoid These 5 Mistakes
Overlooking Health Care Costs Health care can be expensive, and failing to prepare for extended care and monumental health care expenses can derail the plans you made for your golden years. Prioritizing College Funding While you want to help your children or grandchildren pay for their education, you won’t want to sacrifice your retirement for it. Loans and grants may be a better option to help your family secure college funding! Retiring While in Heavy Debt If you struggle to pay down debt while you are still working, you will certainly drown in debt in retirement! Consider managing your debt and finding a solution before you choose to retire. To get the most out of your retirement, it’s important to work with a certified financial planner to help you put together a solid plan for your golden years!
According to Andrew Naber, industrial-organizational psychologist and data scientist, the average person will spend about 90,000 hours working throughout their lifetime. That’s just a tad over 10 years! In the end, the goal is retirement. Is all that work worth it? That answer will depend on what you make of your retirement and the goals and dreams you have set for your golden years. Checking everything off of your bucket list in retirement can be challenging, but if you avoid these five common mistakes some people make in and before retirement, it is possible! Lacking Strategy A retirement strategy is essential. Without a strategy, you will fail to have goals, ambitions, and plans on how to achieve them. With a strategy, you can keep your eyes on the prize and track your progress along the way. Failing to Maximize Tax-Deferred Savings If your employer offers 401(k) options, these are tax-advantaged methods to help you save for retirement. Don’t pass up these opportunities, especially if there are also employer-matching contributions.

Don’t Let the Bugs Bite Summer Tips for Insect-Free Fun!
Cover up! One of the most straightforward ways to ensure no one gets bitten by a bug is to cover any exposed skin when outside. If you can, wear long-sleeved shirts, full- length pants, tall socks, and closed-toe shoes, especially when hiking or camping. And if you can, tuck your pants into your socks or shoes to prohibit anything from crawling up your legs. Choose your outdoor time wisely. Mosquitoes are most active in the early morning and late evening, so avoid going outside during dawn or dusk if possible. Use insect repellents. One of the most effective ways to keep bugs from biting is to use some form of bug repellent. Today, many people opt for non- spray repellent alternatives like repellent patches, wristbands, or clip-ons, many of which work great.
The type of repellent isn’t as important as whether it contains one of these main ingredients:
August is the last full month of summer, which means bugs are at their pesky peak. If you and your family love to get outside in the summertime, protecting your family from bug bites is about more than their itchy aftermath. Bugs can carry many diseases that put you, your family, and your pets at risk. For example, mosquitoes and ticks can transmit the West Nile virus, while ticks can spread Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, anaplasmosis, and much more — including causing alpha-gal syndrome (AGS), which is a life- threatening allergic reaction. So if you and your family find yourselves outside this summer, here are some tips to keep those creepy-crawlies at bay. Would you like to be a Campbell Wealth Management Ambassador? Diethyltoluamide (DEET) Get rid of any standing water near your house. Mosquitoes use stagnant water to lay their eggs, so any filled buckets, partially filled kiddie pools, broken fountains, or even discarded toys that have collected water can all attract mosquitoes to your yard. Routinely check your yard and dump out any water you find. Lastly, be sure to thoroughly check for bugs on both your family and your pets before ever setting foot inside!

A Cat’s Nose Knows HOW WILLOW SAVED HER OWNER’S LIFE
diagnosis years ago but had always stayed on top of it. In April 2023, she fell asleep while her blood sugar was dangerously low. Thankfully, her cat, Willow, noticed something was wrong and sprang into action. Willow went to the living room, where Amanda’s husband had fallen asleep watching television. Willow proceeded to bite his leg and jump on him until he woke up around 4 a.m. He could tell something was wrong, as this was abnormal behavior for Willow, so he followed her to the bedroom, where he spotted his wife. She was slumped over and unresponsive, and he immediately called her an ambulance. Doctors informed Amanda’s husband that she was moments away from slipping into a diabetic coma, but Willow had smelled something off and gotten help before it was too late. Most pets would get a few extra treats for their heroism, but Willow’s feats earned her a more prestigious award. The National Cat Awards named Willow as a finalist for their “Moggy Marvels” category. If Willow wins,
We all wish our pets would be there for us in an emergency. Dogs, cats, and other animals can accomplish amazing feats when provided with enough love and care, and a cat from Liverpool named Willow recently proved that many times over. A cat’s sense of smell is incredibly effective at detecting when something is abnormal, and Willow used her nose to save her owner in the nick of time. For many with diabetes, falling into a diabetic coma is a constant concern, and they regularly check their blood sugar levels and take insulin shots to avoid that scenario. Amanda Jameson, a 51-year-old woman from Liverpool, received a diabetes
she’ll receive a trophy, a £200 pet store voucher, and a year subscription to Cats Protection’s “The Cat” magazine. Although Willow likely doesn’t care about the trophy or the subscription, she’ll be happy enough with £200 worth of goodies and her owner safely by her side.
