Every application is custom. “It was the easiest install since I’ve been with DPi, It took less than two days to install and train everyone,” Brownell says. What made the installation go smoothly was the fact that the mini flexo was a top printing machine. “While a lot of machines are retrofittable, there are some that are not. With bottom printers you have to do some things in order to make it work because digital printing has to print down. Top printing machines are much easier. “It wasn’t that big of a deal to put it on the machine and have it up and running pretty quick,” Tuggle says. “When you’re dealing with a very large company, change doesn’t occur overnight. They (the customer) had to work out with DPi how to read the barcode off of their scanners. Even though it was not an extremely difficult process, it was a matter of getting everybody together to do it. Even though our scanners would scan it, their scanners wouldn’t be- cause they were used to scanning a black barcode on a white label so they had to make some adjustments.” Darling and Tuggle are excited about the market oppor-

tunities with other customers. “We have unrealized growth with existing customers and prospects,” Darling says. “It’s meeting expectations, and according to DPi, we’re the first company in the U.S. who has successfully installed a digital inkjet printer on a flexo folder-gluer during the manufacturing process,” he adds. Custom Packaging is projecting an ROI of less than six months. “I really want to commend DPi and their efforts. They delivered what we asked,” Darling says. “This is new terri- tory. There were questions on both sides. We didn’t know if this was going to work, but they came through, and by doing so it set us apart from our competitors.
