Transplant Shock
Transplant shock is an establishment period for newly installed plants where those plants are devoting their energy into overcoming the disturbances of being moved and planted while trying to push new roots into the soil. During this period, plants are more delicate than they’ll be once established . Moisture and weather extremes can effect your new plants even if you provide ideal care. In order to nourish a plant through transplant shock you need to provide it with ample water and protection . Read more on how much to water new plants below. While it is recovering it will be especially vulnerable to disease, unseasonable weather, and insects . There are no secrets to overcoming transplant shock. It is simply a natural establishment that we must understand. Focus on ideal moisture and protection and understand that exponential growth doesn’t occur until after a plant is through transplant shock. Timelines: Trees- 1 year of transplant shock for every inch in diameter when planted Shrubs- 3-5 years Perennials- 2-3 years

Watering your new landscape plantings is the most important thing you will do to aid their establishment and development. Keep in mind there is also no clean cut rule to watering due to both soil factors and environmental changes. Your new plants and the surroundings soil are your best gauges to deciding how much to water. Landscape Watering Guide
KEYS FOR WATERING YOUR PLANTS
If possible don't use a sprinkler. Use either an open-ended hose (remove spray nozzle), at a low pressure, or a soaker hose and water at the base of the plant, not the foliage. Always pay attention to the soil condition of the plant. Dry soil and drooping leaves mean the plant needs water; Wet soil and drooping leaves means the soil needs to dry before watering again.
HOW OFTEN? Frequency is weather dependent . (See note below.)
During the growing season , new installations should be watered every other day for the first two weeks. Weeks three and four, water one to two times per week Continue watering one time per week for the remainder of the growing season (until the leaves drop for deciduous plants and until December 31st for evergreen plants.) Observation is key : Monitor plants by checking soil moisture or looking for signs of wilting. Beware, plants may need more watering during hot, dry spells. Winter Watering: A thorough watering to a depth of six to eight inches at least once a month should be sufficient but do keep in mind the current environmental conditions. Water plants when the temperatures are above freezing and the soil is not frozen.
Watering Watering
HOW MUCH?
Trees : Slowly water allowing water to soak into the soil. Ten gallons of water per time is generally acceptable for most trees (2" or less caliper tree trunk). A nything larger than a 2" requires adding ten additional gallon per inch of calipe r (3" needs 20 gallons). An alternative to a handheld garden hose is a five gallon bucket with one to two 1/8 of an inch diameter holes drilled in the sides near the bottom. Simply fill the bucket and let it leak slowly. There are also bag options for tree watering sold at most garden centers. Soaker hoses can also work but the time should be prolonged for at least four hours. ( Or contact High Prairie for Hydration Packs ) Shrubs & Perennials: Water at the base of the plant slowly enough for the water to soak in, about 20-30 seconds. During hot and dry conditions, allow water to soak in and repeat. Stop if there are puddles or runoff.
Tip: Let your plants and soil direct your decisions. If you have a maintenance partner, collaborate with them to achieve best results!
SPECIAL NOTES Watering needs vary by season , with spring and summer plantings requiring more water than fall plantings. Rainfall should be evaluated carefully, as a light rain may not replace proper irrigation — and irrigation should not be turned off unless rainfall is substantial. New plants require close monitoring because root balls can dry out faster than surrounding soil. In extreme heat, plants may wilt even when adequately watered; check soil moisture before increasing irrigation, as overwatering can cause similar symptoms a nd may lead to root damage from oxygen depletion. Most plants require consistent watering for the first three seasons to establish properly, and even mature plants may need supplemental watering during drought conditions.

Newly installed perennials go through a predictable establishment period where it takes three years to achieve ideal size and bloom. Experienced gardeners refer to this perennial timeline in stages of sleep, creep, and leap! SLEEP The first year your perennial plants will sleep. This means they won't grow much bigger or produce many flowers. All of its growth will be happening below ground in the roots as the plants overcome transplant shock. CREEP The second year is when the perennials creep. They’ll begin growing and blooming more with a more stable root system. Since the fresh plants are just overcoming transplant shock, their momentum for growth and bloom increases as the year progresses. Establishing Perennials
LEAP In the third year, perennials will leap. They have a strong root system, the energy to replace leaves quickly and can now focus on getting taller, flowering, and producing fruit, or whatever the particular plant does best. As the homeowner, you shouldn't expect full size or bloom from your perennial plants until the third year. They simply have to establish before they can thrive.

Caring for Seed
Caring for Sod Sod requires consistent moisture and protection for 2 weeks and can be installed in most temperatures, even freezing if they can cut it! Timeline: 2-3 weeks Protection : Avoid disturbances or mowing. Moisture: Sod must be kept damp the entire two weeks and cannot dry out. This means more water cycles in hot seasons, and less in cool seasons. Example Fall Schedule: For the first seven days we suggest you water three times a day, at 6 AM, 8 AM, and 10 PM. From day eight to fourteen, slightly reduce your watering to twice a day. We recommend 7 AM and 10 AM as your watering times. After that, you can return to a normal watering schedule.
Grass seed requires consistent moisture and protection for 4-8 weeks with mild to moderate temperatures. A dormant seeding can be done in freezing temps as well, but the seed will not germinate until temperatures warm up. Timeline: 4-8 weeks Protection : Maintain straw, pellet, or soil coverings over seed during the establishment period and avoid disturbances or mowing. Moisture: Before seeds begin to sprout- Keep consistently moist without flooding. (Standing puddles could rot the seeds). Water several times a day on a set cycle based on your irrigation coverage to water deeply, allow the water to absorb, then repeat throughout the day. After seeds sprout- Water 2-3 times per day, early morning and late afternoon are best. Water deeply and repeat this schedule for three weeks. Weeks 4 to 8- Adapt your fresh seeds to your regular turf watering schedule. Mowing: Don’t mow until the seedlings have reached a height of about 4 inches and never remove more than 25% of the height at a time. Our suggestion is to begin mowing around 6 weeks.
Mowing: Don’t mow for 2 weeks Tips:
If sod begins to yellow or decline, it can be saved by determining if it’s too much or too little moisture and adjusting your watering. You or your irrigation professional will need to monitor daily for two weeks.

Plaster Pool Care
After the first 28 days of curing your new gunite plaster pool, you can transition to a regular maintenance routine. During those initial four weeks, you (or our team), likely brushed frequently and carefully balanced chemicals to protect the fresh plaster. Now normal pool operations (like using automatic vacuums, robotic cleaners, and heaters) can safely resume. You’ll have two core options for ongoing care: 1.Engage with professional pool care services, such as High Prairie’s Crystal Clear Program: a.XXXXX b. XXXXXXXXX 2.Main your pool yourself. Here’s a link to a great DIY resource: Crystal Clear Program
Pool School for DIY
(Note: Kansas City experiences hot summers and freezing winters, so pool care here must address both ongoing summer maintenance and proper winterization. Local tap water is moderately hard (~114 ppm hardness), which may require chemical adjustments to meet ideal pool water parameters.) Comprehensive Care Guide:
