Boycotting the Jews. Newspapers report that a combina tion of Christian and Mohammedan in habitants of Palestine has been formed to frustrate the aims of the Zionists. This has already led to the boycott of Jewish merchants. England’s exercise of the mandate has been strongly pro tested. Serious Arab Problem. A grave Arab problem is on hand in Palestine. The sudden freedom given the Turkish slaves, it is said, is too much for them. They have little re spect for government unless it is a strong government, and the new order of things in Palestine is altogether too easy. Freedom to them means pillage and murder. Sir Herbert Samuel hopes to educate them rather than use force, but meanwhile there will be much for the Jews and Christians to suffer at their hands. Plenty of Water. “ The brook Kedron is flowing merri ly as the result of the storms,” says a newspaper, “ and the cisterns of Jerusa lem are overflowing, assuring a full sup ply for next summer.” All these signs of unusual productiveness in Palestine are in fulfillment of prophecies concern ing the last days. Baptist Church for Jerusalem. We are glad to learn that the south ern Baptists have undertaken an am bitious program for spreading the Gos pel in Palestine. It is proposed to es tablish the “ First Baptist Church” of Jerusalem. A general missionary rep resenting the Baptist board will be sent out as soon as possible to carry out the widening program. The Hebrew Christian Quarterly con tains the following item concerning the investment of money in Gospel work among the Jews: “ Assertions recently made in public have come to us about money invested in the evangelization of the Jews. It has been boldly asserted that ninety-nine cents out of every one hundred g i v e n by Christians to bring Jews to a saving knowledge of Christ is wasted— thrown away— goes for naught— their evangelization being practically hopeless. We challenge this statement as an unqualified false hood invented by Satan himself. If any man cares to know the truth he will find from statistics that the money invested in J e w i s h evangelization, which has been precious little; is more than three times as fruitful as that invested in any other missionary field. Evidently Satan does not want the Jews brought to Christ, and the great de nominations in their missionary opera tion so far as the Jews are concerned have considered the lies of Satan worth more than the facts in the case." The Rise of a Jew. The following account of the rise of a Jew not only shows how God has peculiarly fitted this people for leader ship, but contains some valuable les sons for many a Gentile who fails to make good for lack of push: “ Forty-five years ago Rufus Isaacs, a poor and unhappy little Jew boy, ran away from home and shipped before the
