LOWE FAMILY UPDATES
By the end of May, we are generally sold out of bulls and fall-calving females. Our spring herd has been exposed to a bull for two cycles and is mostly bred back. Around Labor Day, the daily task list gets a little longer. Fall calving is in full swing, private treaty sales of bred heifers have started, and we are about to wean our fall calf crop. This means that we will carve out some time away from late May to early September. Whether we leave for professional development to bring information back to the operation or simply take some time to relax, there are diminishing returns to trying to work 365 days a year. Per usual, Kenneth and Joe both invested in their continuing education. Kenneth spent his usual trip to the Beef Improvement Federation Symposium in Amarillo, Texas. Joe finished up his time on the beef industry long-range planning committee by serving as spokesman for the group at the NCBA Summer Business Meeting in San Diego, California. On the family front, our worlds continue to revolve around Shepherd experiencing the world. He is much more active in his second summer with us. His interests include any and all types of animals, letting everyone know when he sees heavy equipment, and getting dirty when he is not supposed to. From what I have been told, that means he is all boy. Summer 2025 was closer to home than summer 2024 for the entire Lowe family, but it certainly allowed us to complete a few tasks that we had been looking to accomplish. Like always, summer feels like it flew by far too fast. However, we are excited about everything that fall brings.
