writings of man?” The Word of the Lord rightly declares, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God (it is literally “God breathed”). As believers let us earnestly content for the faith once for all delivered to the saints. * * * You will not be able to make Christ the King of your life until you first of all abdi cate the throne. BELIEVING IS SEEING A man of very high educational stand ing visited a farmer one day. Sitting on the front porch, the academically trained visitor told his country friend, “I refuse to believe anything that I can’t under stand." The farmer smiled, rocked a few moments more, and then replied, “All you have to do is look out over my farm and your theory falls apart. See, there are some sheep and cows in the distance. I f you look a little closer you will see some pigs and chickens scattered around here and there. Now, you tell me if you can, how it is that while they are all eating the same grass, different things happen. It turns to wool in the sheep, to hair on the cows, to bristle in the pigs, and to feathers on the chickens. Are you so bold as to tell me you under stand how this is done? I f you live long enough you will come to understand that there are many things you have to be lieve without fully comprehending them. There is a black cow, eating green grass which will cause her to give white milk from which I will make yellow butter.” As we think of our blessed Saviour we can reflect on the wonderful words of the Apostle Peter who said of Him, “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now you see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeak able and full of glory." * * * Prayer is a golden river by whose brink some die of thirst while others kneel, drink, and go away refreshed. W A Y S OF FORGIVING Do you know someone who seems to delight in criticism? There was an elder ly man who was known for holding en mity and grudges against his neighbors. His pastor discussed the matter with him, suggesting that for his own well being there were certain things which
Along the road» in India little resting places are called samatangas. Here the weary one may relax, put down his bur den, pausing awhile as he converses with other friendly travelers. Then refreshed, he can journey on his way. Missionaries tell us that Indian believers will some times say, “Christ is my Samatanga, or resting place.” In these hurried and har ried days, unless we heed the Lord’s words to come apart and rest awhile, we will face the danger of just simply com ing apart! Pause today to “sharpen your axe." Only in this way will you have the strength and wisdom to meet the trials of the day. The Saviour’s open invitation is, “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” EASILY FOOLED Whenever Christ was asked about the signs of His return invariably He gave, as the first indication, the increase of false teachers who would bring in doc trines of men, rather than adhering to the Gospel message. Under the inspira tion of the Holy Spirit Paul wrote, “Though we or an angel from heaven preach any other Gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” The sad and tragic fact is that many men are more ready to believe a lie than they are the truth. Some y e a r 8 ago newspapers carried weekly accounts on their sports pages concerning football victories of the Plain- field New Jersey Teachers’ College. Evi dently, no matter who they played they were always victorious. One enterpris ing sports editor had his curiosity so arroused by the perfect record of this team that he decided to look into it fur ther. Upon investigation he discovered that the entire scheme was the hoax of a man at the wire service office in New York City. Working all alone on Satur day afternoons, he thought up a cleverly devised plan to fool the newspapers. He just made up the name of the Plainfield New Jersey Teachers’ College. There was no such team or school. In the area of religion, false teaching has led many in dividuals astray. That is why we need to be alert and careful. Ask yourself, “Are the teachings I ’m studying those found in the Bible, or are they some later * * * In the school of experience there is no "teacher's pet."
