Developed by Monument Re- alty, and designed by KGD Architecture with interiors by Hartman Design Group , the 14-story apartment build- ing offers 321 apartments and over 16,000 s/f of amenity space, including a rooftop pool, social club and entertainment spaces, hospitality bars, and fitness center. Curated for a unique city living experience, SoNYa is bold, eclectic and savvy on the outside, while calm, quiet and soothing inside each apartment. The design employs an ambitious blend

of color and patterns for an age-neutral spirit. It is a re- flection of the vibrant culture, “to bring that connection to the neighborhood on the exterior, which is usually on the inside of a building,” said Michael Darby , Monument Realty’s founder. “We wanted to develop some- thing special for this communi- ty, in this neighborhood, in this city,” continues Darby. “When you are walking on the streets, and you look up, the vibrant, colorful building elevates your mood. The closer you get to the building, the more you can ap- preciate the spirit it brings to the area.” SoNYa is designed to inspire discovery and energize the senses. The entire building, inside and out, is infused with art, selected to represent the community and participate in the neighborhood’s art land- scape. The artwork is inspired by “urban graffiti” with strong patterns, pops of color, col- lage style art and unique D.C. landmarks. Monument Realty provided the wall space for muralists during the 2022 D.C. Walls Festival and is pleased to have participated in the program. The outdoor mural depicts a Ukrainian refugee woman in blue with four arms wrapping around herself. The artist, Emmanuel Jarus, felt the composition was right for this setting, “since her story is inspiring and she could be a resident of SoNYa.” Inside, the lobby provides a vibrant entry to those looking for an elevated, but approach- able aesthetic. Using clean lines, a colorful palette and DC authentic, mixed-media artwork, the space is already a favorite among residents. The signature colors connote energy and health, with the or- ange tone evoking well-being in alignment with turmeric, and the custom Sherwin Williams shade of yellow for the space is aptly named “Va Va Voom.” SoNYa’s modern amenities include resident-only elec- tric scooters, a fitness center, private co-working spaces, a sports bar, an indoor/outdoor rooftop lounge, a pet spa, and a lobby hospitality bar. As with other Monument Realty apartment buildings in the DC region, SoNYa is envi- ronmentally friendly, designed to LEED Silver certification and boasting multiple electric car-charging stations.
