IN M EMOR IAL
OCTOBER 28 - NOVEMBER 4, 1962
A Faithful Saint Enters God's Rest M rs . J. R ussell D avis (née Mir iam Grubb) of Los Altos, Cal if., went into the presence of the King on June 23, 1962. Graduating from BIOLA in 1932, and later from Bob Jones University, she spent many years of dedicated service in China, a number of which were on the faculty of BIOLA in China, at Hunan, where her husband was also a staff member. In 1948, because of the Communist invasion, she and the children were evacuated and were not able to re turn to China. However, Mr. Davis served from time to time with the school and as a government represen tative. Both he and Mrs. Davis spent several years in Japan and Mr. Davis now makes trips abroad for Overseas Crusades. Besides her husband and three sons — Capt. Frank R. Davis, USAF, Day- ton, Ohio, Charles A. Davis, Mt. View, Calif, and John R. Davis, Jr. of Los Altos, Calif, and two grandchildren— a host of other relatives and friends mourn the loss of this one whose life was ever “ a sweet savour of Christ.” Although for nine months before her death she had undergone unspeakable suffering. Mrs. Davis’s homegoing was peaceful and triumphant and she left a testimony of victory in Christ which will never be forgotten. Mr. Davis has written some verses in her memory which he has kindly allowed us to use for the comfort of others likewise bereaved, from which we quote several stanzes: We walked together through life's changing ways, Through shadows dark and sunshine's golden rays, Life's joys and sorrows we were £lad to share A s long as hand in hand we both were there, And knew that He Whose love had made us one Would guide us till our days on earth were done, Then lead us home. And as we walked the shadows grew more deep, And though she suffered much, she did not weep. But let the sunshine of her love shine through. And still cried out, "T h y will I want to do," Until the day He gently called at. last, " M y child, come home, thy pain for ever past, You've earned 'Well done'."
