Dear Students, I am sure you have been asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up,” multiple times in your life. Some of you might know, while others have no idea, which is perfectly normal! I was one of those children who always wanted to be a teacher. I would line all of my stuffed animals up and play “school” for hours. My idea of the perfect spend the night party with my girlfriends was to work on projects for extra credit! As I got older, I spent my summers volunteering at summer school programs. There was never a doubt as to what I wanted to be when I grew up. It is never too early to begin thinking of what you would like your career to be. Investigate all of the CTE programming that we have to offer. Think about your dream job and research what the career path to get there is. Some considerations to investigate are what the educational requirements are to get the job, how much the job pays, and how competitive the field is. You could take an aptitude test online that would make suggestions based on your interests. Regardless, do your homework and try out different ideas through attending a career fair, taking a CTE class, or asking questions. Making a career choice is one of the biggest decisions you will make in your life. Choose wisely! Always, Dr. Beck

DID YOU KNOW... Food waste is Trash! -- FOOD WASTE AWARENESS WEEK
Everybody eats! Food connects us all as we sit down to have a meal with family and friends. And, as a farmer, I enjoy growing and sharing food. But I don’t like to see it wasted. Wasted food causes many problems, but we can do many things to prevent that from happening. The United States Department of Agriculture estimates that 30 to 40 percent of food is wasted. This is good food that might have helped feed families in need, but instead it ended up in landfills with other trash (where it causes more problems). Also, think of all that energy that was wasted to grow and prepare the food: land, water, and labor that were used to produce, process, transport, prepare, and store it. In this Let’s Talk Trash Edition, we are going to discuss food waste – its causes and possible solutions that you can do to help. Food is the great connector, and I hope you will appreciate it even more after you read this Edition.
