T he most important question that can be put to anybody is the question with which Jesus Christ confronted the Pharisees of His day: “What think ye of Christ? whose son is he?” (Matt. 22:42.) This is the supreme question of life, the question of the centuries, the question of the hour, the most important question that a man is called upon to answer. Was Jesus God or merely a good man? Jesus Christ claimed to be God and equal with the Father. There are those today who sincerely believe in Jesus as the perfect teacher and prophet; who recognize His flawless life and seek to imitate and strive after His like­ ness, but who do not believe that He is God in

the flesh, that is to say, the very Son of God. One day when He was on earth, Jesus turned to those who could not think of Him as the Son of God, and said, “ I and my Father are one” (John 10:30). Men today try to explain away the full and obvious meaning of these words; but the Jews knew exactly what He meant, for they took up stones to kill Him because He had made Himself equal with God. Jesus was either who He claimed to be or He was mistaken or He deliberately told what was false. If He is a perfect teacher of truth, He could not be mistaken. If He is what all admit Him to be—the perfect character and the sinless Man—He could not have told a lie. Since men who will not acknowledge His CONTINUED
