merely human teacher . . . The greatest human teachers have al­ ways been reticent as to the ul­ timate authority of their teaching. They have always admitted there is room for interpretation, for question, for further investiga­ tion.” (The Teaching of Christ, pp. 3 ,4 ). The greatest scholars of the University of California are still busily engaged in research, studying, investigating, searching and theorizing in pursuit of truth. “ This note is entirely absent from the teaching of Christ. There is no apology. He never said, It is nat­ ural therefore to suppose; It may probably be; o r , Consult the authorities.” (The Teaching of Christ, p. 4.) Hear His own words about it: “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pa'sS aw ay ” (Matt. 2 4 :3 5 ). “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man . . . And every one that hear­ eth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man” (Matt. 7:24- 26). “Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sin­ ful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels” (Mark 8:38). “ Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24). “Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death” (John 8:51). “For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a com­ mandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak” (John 12:49, 50). Robert E.
