M OTOR C ONTROLS
The motor runs in two modes: manual and automatic. The motor mode can be selected from the
Option Mode. More details on how to set the motor mode can be found in the previous section. When
the motor is in automatic mode, the unit will run automatically when the operator is welding, and will
go to the “Sleep” mode after 5 minutes of being idle. The sleep time can be adjusted in the option
mode. When the motor is in Manual Mode, the unit will only run after the green double push button is
pressed and turn off when the red double push button is pressed. It is recommended to keep the
motor mode in Automatic Mode.
The frequency of the motor is controlled by the ABB Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). The frequency
of the motor can be set manually or automatically. On the VFD Panel, press the LOC/REM button to
switch between Local Mode and Remote Mode. In Local Mode, the VFD sets the motor frequency
manually. Press the UP or DOWN button to increase or decrease the motor frequency set point.
Press Start Button to begin to ramp up motor to the desired frequency set point and Stop Button to
ramp down the motor back to 0 Hz.
In Remote Mode, the motor frequency is a constant frequency determined by parameter 1202, by
default is 60 Hz. Parameter 1203 determines the frequency of the motor during sleep mode. It is
recommended to run the unit on Remote Mode.
