In addition to protecting Irvine from current and future hazards, having an LHMP will allow Irvine to be eligible for grants from FEMA for additional hazard mitigation efforts, under the provisions of the federal Robert T. Stafford Act and the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000. It will also make Irvine eligible to receive additional disaster relief funding from the State of California, per California Government Code Section 8685.9.
