CITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION NO. 20-85
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF IRVINE, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE IRVINE LOCAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN
WHEREAS , the City has prepared a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan update in compliance with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 ; and
This Local Hazard Mitigation Plan , (LHMP), has been prepared in compliance with California Government Code Sections 8685 .9 and 65302 .6, which integrates this plan with the IRVINE General Plan Safety Element ; and
The City has received a letter f rom FEMA identifying the City's LHMP as eligible for approval pending final adoption ; and
City Council adoption of a current LHMP will make the City elig ible to receive earmarked mitigation grant funding , as well as eligible to apply for additional federal mitigation grants ; and
City staff has collaborated with numerous partner agencies and hazard experts to develop the LHMP ; and
On June 18, 2020 , Irvine residents , business owners , neighboring cities , and other community stakeholders were invited to provide feedback on the Public Review Draft Local Hazard Mitigation Plan ; and
On July 8, 2020 , the public review period was completed , and minor comments were received during this period , requiring minimal revisions to the plan ; and
On August 5, 2020 , the City transmitted the LHMP document to the California Office of Emergency Services , initiating the formal review process ; and
On August 24 , 2020 , City staff was notified that Cal OES had submitted the LHMP to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for review; and
On September 14, 2020 , FEMA determined the plan to be eligible for final approval pending its adoption by the IRVINE City Council ,
NOW, THEREFORE , the City Council of the City of Irvine DOES HEREBY RESOLVE that the Irvine Local Hazard Mitigation Plan is hereby approved and adopted.
