Incorporated into 2020 LHMP Mitigation Actions The City’s Emergency Management Program actively partners and engages with public and private organizations throughout the City. The City’s Emergency Management Program focuses on education programs to reduce risk to citizens, public agencies, businesses, and schools. Developments within Irvine have included compliance with the latest codes and requirements reducing future hazards and disasters. This has been included in Mitigation Action 10.06.

Coordinate Natural Hazard Mitigation programs with other public and quasi-governmental entities, such as the Orange County Flood Control District, school districts, and utilities. Develop, enhance, and implement education programs aimed at mitigating natural hazards, and reducing the risk to citizens, public agencies, businesses, and schools. Include Natural Hazard Mitigation planning in all future growth and development of the City, including the Orange County Great Park. Develop more accurate projections of the impact of disasters in Irvine by more fully utilizing HAZUS, the standardized methodology developed by FEMA, to better identify vulnerabilities and mitigate potential losses.
