This action identifies technologies and processes that are no longer relevant based on the City’s current emergency services priorities and programs.

Enhance data and mapping for flood zone information within the City of Irvine and identify and map flood zone areas outside of designated flood zones. Continue to develop acquisition and mitigation strategies to preserve open space for flood mitigation and water quality. Develop Emergency Action Plans for warning communities, evacuating residents, and providing post-flood actions for communities downstream of dams owned by IRWD with a FEMA significant or high standard potential rating. Enhance emergency services to increase the efficiency of fire response and recovery activities.

Apply FEMA’s cooperative technical partnership using flood plain mapping data; encourage continued development of flood prone area mapping for all storm water retention basins. Continue to develop strategy for acquiring and managing open space; identify sites where environmental restoration work can benefit flood mitigation and water quality. Research FEMA documents for planning guidance; coordinate plant creation, implementation and operation with the City of Irvine and the City of Newport Beach. Consider installation of remote solar powered cell boxes direct to 911 PSAP; consider using IPD CityWatch phone notification system to alert residents of hazard threats; determine feasibility of positioning a wildland suppression unit in stations adjacent to wildland interface areas.
