YU Museum Hosts Rare Hand-Drawn Menorah and Manuscripts by Maimonides Yeshiva University Museum announced the launch of a thrilling exhibition housing original artifacts and manuscripts belonging to Moses Maimonides (Rambam). The exhibition, The Golden Path: Maimonides Across Eight Centuries , running from May 9 to Dec. 23, 2023, will feature a Mishnah Torah personally signed by Maimonides, a hand-drawn menorah that may have been sketched by the sage luminary and other rare pieces on loan to the YU Museum.

Mindfulness Helps Migraines
YU Libraries Receives Rare Collection of Newspapers from 18– and 19th–Century America Dr. Ronald and Miriam Rubin donated 350 newspaper clippings dated between 1734 and 1869 which chronicle an important moment in American Jewish life. Gifted items include an advertisement placed by prominent revolutionary Haym Salomon and a famed correspondence between President George Washington and The Newport Hebrew Congregation.
A groundbreaking clinical study led by Ferkauf’s Dr. Elizabeth Seng showed that mindfulness-based therapy consisting of meditation training and mind- fulness exercises reduces migraine-related disability, even six months post-trial. Dr. Seng was given an award for her research by the American Neurological Association.

YU Students Experience Morocco As part of YU’s “Global Citizenship 2023,” over 30 participants spent a week in Morocco exploring Jewish heritage sites, befriending Moroccan Jews, praying at the gravesites of great rabbis, repairing tombstones in the Jewish cemetery, building bridges with Muslim university students and more. Accom- panying the group was President Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman, Dr. Erica Brown, Rabbi Ari Rockoff and Terri and Andrew Herenstein.
Stern Women Perform Mousetrap Hundreds turned out to see Agatha Christie’s iconic murder mystery at the Schottenstein Theater, starring a stellar ensemble cast from the Stern College Dramatics Society. Back from the pandemic, the production showcased a rebuilt professional theater company, one that has been giving Orthodox women a stage since the 1950s. Stern and Yeshiva College Honors Programs Fall Recap Both the S. Daniel Abraham Honors Program at Stern College for Women and the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein Honors Program at Yeshiva College offered dynamic programming for Honors students in the fall semester. Stern Honors events included a visit to the popular plays Leopoldstadt and Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish; a tour of the United Nations; and a visit from Cardozo Law School’s Dr. Michelle Greenberg-Kobrin. YC Honors events included the annual Nobel Nanosecond Party as well as discussions with Dr. Ronen Shoval, Rabbi Dr. Zev Eleff and Dr. Erica Brown.

U.S. Senators Secure $1.5 million for Lamport Auditorium Thanks to the advocacy of Sen. Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, YU is pleased to announce a $1.5 million grant to restore the Nathan Lamport Auditorium on the Wilf Campus. Proposed renovations to the historic auditorium were among the projects included in the bipartisan federal omnibus spending package for fiscal year 2023 signed into law in December by President Biden. Under this new federal spending package, the funding will restore the auditorium’s celebrated Art Deco and Moorish-Gothic Revival architecture to its original splendor. The auditorium will also receive important modernizations, such as cutting-edge audio-visual technologies. Rabbi Berman remembered his father’s life and legacy as a man of great ideals who lived by the axiom that G-d gives us gifts and it is our responsibility to take care of His people. Second Annual American Dream Mall Hanukkah Takeover a Huge Success On Tuesday, Dec. 20, the third night of Hanukkah, the Yeshiva University student councils, in collaboration with the Office of Student Life (OSL), hosted a Hanukkah takeover of the America Dream Mall. Over 1,000 people attended the joyous evening, bringing together undergraduate students from across YU’s various programs as well as faculty, staff and their families.

At home and across the world, YU has been busy actualizing our core values. Showcasing Torat Adam , our students expanded their horizons through firsthand encounters with the people and heritage of Morocco; embodying the essence of Torat Chesed , YU in Israel opened the first therapy center serving the English-speaking population; Torat Emet is manifest in the rare manuscripts and other items hand-written by Maimonides that will appear in the Yeshiva University Museum exhibit; exemplifying Torat Chaim , longtime YU friends Sen. Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand secured $1.5 million in federal funding to renovate YU’s historic Lamport auditorium; and Azrieli hosted World Zionist Organization educators for a day of enrichment in a unique collaboration between the Diaspora and Israeli educator communities, expressing Torat Tzion —the light of redemption.
