Going down there again last month we found them much more eager to hear us, and many of them, anxious about their soul’s salvation. > Pray for this splendid group of men as they labor there, that ‘‘The Word of God may run and he glorified.” Knowing many of the friends appreciate hearing of the work in a personal way, a mailing list is being made up of those who will pray for it, and we hope to send them flash lights of the work from month to month. If you feel led to pray, for us send your name and address to the Superintendent of this Department,; ; Prayer is work. Pray.

At the. close of the message, when we explained that we had a book with us that told the way of Life and would give one to each man who would agree to read it through, over 200 men stepped up and took a Gospel of John from our hands; promising as they did so that they would read it. Before the whistle blew for them to go to work they were told that we would come once a month if they liked, and what do you .suppose they said?fi Let me tell you— “We want you to come every week.” However, as this was impossible, we told them we would come once a month.

Tke Chosen People—The Land—And the Book Jewish News Notes Compiled by J. A. Vaus, Supt. Jewish Department, Bible Institute of Los Angeles

it is interesting to read in the secular English press that a new Lectureship in Modern Hebrew has been created in the London University. Thus, the language of Israel (as well as Israel herself) is, again to take a well-deserved place amongst the peoples. (Isaiah liv. 10).— J. M. H. Jews in Holland For more than three centuries now Holland has been a haven of rest for Jews. They, many tens of thousands of them, fled thereunto from Spain and Portugal during the days of the Roman Catholic bloody Inquisition, when Jew- burning was a popular sport as bull-fighting was (and still is) in those lands; The Dutch people received the fleeing harassed Hebrews kindly. And it is interesting to read from the latest census in Holland that there are about 106,000 Jews in that hospitable land. Of these 63,734 Jews are resident in Amsterdam, the city made famous by the great Jewish philosopher, Benedict (Baruch) Spinoza (1632-1677).— J. M. H. Dr. Weizmann’s Visit to America and its Results Dr, Weizmann’s third visit to America, which ended this week, sees the fruition of three years of strenuous effort. No longer division in American Jewry, but union and under standing. No longer questions and doubts, but a fair accord on all major points . that represent action. The extension of the Jewish Agency will crown the union, in service, of the Zionist Organization and all other groups in American Jewry. This achievement is due to the leader ship of one man, tihe President of the World Zionist Organ ization. And he has obtained his object without .in the least impairing the prestige or .strength of the Zionist Organization. On the contrary, the prestige of the Zionist Organization is now at its highest. It represents the most powerful organized force in Jewry. The seeds that Dr. Weizmann has planted will be. nurtured and brought to flower by a larger army of Zionists than was organized when first Dr. Weizmann came to us.— The New Palestine. Student Hanged At Szatmar, a Jewish student, Heinricfi Kugler, is de clared to have been hanged to a lamp post by a mob. His mother was drenched with petroleum and burned. The mob, under the leadership of students, drove a Jewish woman, unclothed, into the market place. It is asserted that in Klausenberg Rumanian oflicials and members of the Rumanian secret police, who previously had arranged a demonstration in favor of Grown Prince Charles of Rumania, who was in town, took part in the disturbances there.-—Los Angeles Times.

Israel Among The Nations common with all the nations who are; coming ) the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley lis year to display the wares and goods of their DuntrieSj it is announced that there is also to be

a Palestine section, .where the resources, of the Jewish National Home in Palestine will be exhibited. The pro ducts of Palestine glorify the labour of Jewish hands in that homeland of theirs. And it is surely a remarkable sign of the times, when Jews, as a distinct people again, are thus to take their place among the nations for the first time since the .year ,7,0 A. D.— -Jewish Missionary Herald. Russian Communism and Judaism The campaign against “Religion, liwhich was initiated in Russia sometime ago, has struck at Judaism at the hands, be it said, mainly of Russian Communists of Jewish origin. All sorts of extravagancies and anomalies have been re sorted to in an attempt to destroy the. Jewish religion and beat it out of the hearts and minds of those who should bear allegiance to it. “Red” ceremonies to replace the Abrahamic Covenant and to celebrate marriage have been instituted, the Jewish practices having been denominated as “ Black.” The “Living Synagogue” is another obsession, established, so it is announced, “ to combat the superstition and ignorance in the present ‘dead’ Synagogue. Its ser vices” 1consist of public meetings and debates to which representatives of orthodox Judaism are invited. The Pass- over, of course, was an opportunity which these mad icono clasts were not likely to neglect, Public meetings were held “ to enlighten the Jewish population as to the real meaning of Passover as one of the instruments employed by Jewish clericalism to hold the people in bondage and the ingenuity of this perversion will not be missed. Mock Seders were held in several places; and that this wretched movement in its various activities has created an extremely serious position for the Jews in Russia is shown by the warning words recently issued by Professor Rabbi Lykin. He says that the wihole of the Jewish youth of Soviet Russia is becoming detached from Jewish life and morally corrupted. A spirit of hatred and contempt for everything sacred to Jews is being inculcated in them. And the worst of all is' ,as the Rabbi points out, that there is nothing of a spiritually uplifting kind to take the place the religion which is fast being undermined.— Jewish Chronicle, Revival of Hebrew In Palestine Hebrew is now a living language again, recognized by the legal and political British authorities; and
