AEDIB: Expanding Digital Skills Access Across Africa

In today’s fast-evolving digital landscape, access to digital skills is no longer a luxury. As part of the Africa-Europe Digital Innovation Bridge (AEDIB) initiative, AfriLabs partnered with Enabel to bridge the digital divide by increasing access to digital skills learning across African countries. This collaboration is a testament to AfriLabs’ commitment to empowering marginalized and vulnerable populations, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven world.

Through the Digital Economy Skills (DES) Academy, AfriLabs has played a crucial role in expanding digital literacy and training opportunities across the continent. As a result, 403 participants from 30 African countries—including women, youth, and other underserved groups have enrolled in digital learning programs, gaining essential skills to enhance their employability and entrepreneurial capabilities. The impact of this initiative is already evident. To date, 159 certificates have been issued, signaling tangible progress in equipping individuals with certified digital competencies. The DES Academy serves a diverse range of stakeholders, including academia, investors, and entrepreneur support organizations (ESOs), fostering a well-rounded ecosystem that strengthens Africa’s digital economy. Among the participating countries, Uganda has emerged as the leader in enrollments, reflecting the country’s growing appetite for digital upskilling and innovation-driven development. By championing inclusive digital education through AEDIB, AfriLabs and Enabel are not just providing training—they are unlocking opportunities. Through initiatives like the DES Academy, they are laying the foundation for a digitally skilled workforce, ensuring that no one is left behind in Africa’s digital transformation journey.
