At the same time, AfriLabs deepened its engagement with Morocco’s Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique (UM6P) and UM6P Ventures, creating pathways for African startups to benefit from investment opportunities, mentorship programs, and co-innovation projects. This partnership is not only strengthening research- driven entrepreneurship but also equipping African innovators with the academic and financial backing needed to scale their solutions beyond local markets. Additionally, through AfriLabs Academy, specialized UM6P courses have been integrated to provide tailored learning experiences for entrepreneurs and ecosystem builders across the continent. While unlocking capital and knowledge networks is crucial, providing startups with global expansion support remains a key focus. The collaboration with Plug and Play, one of the world’s largest innovation platforms and venture capital firms, has opened doors for African startups to explore international growth opportunities. Through this partnership, startups within the AfriLabs network now have access to global accelerators, investment partners, and corporate clients across various sectors, positioning them for long-term scalability. Recognizing that digital transformation is not just about innovation but also about security, AfriLabs finalized a strategic partnership with the Cybersecurity Institute at Lab Four, facilitated by the U.S. Department of Commerce. This collaboration empowers AfriLabs hubs to operate as Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) centers, tapping into the growing global demand for outsourced digital services. By providing cybersecurity solutions and outsourcing capabilities, African innovation hubs can now diversify their revenue streams, enhance digital resilience, and create new employment opportunities in the tech sector. Throughout the year, AfriLabs also played a key role in high-impact projects designed to drive social and economic change. Collaborations with organizations like the Gates Foundation, Meta, Intel Corporation, UNDP, and the Adaptation Fund enabled the implementation of AI-driven hackathons, research on deep tech, innovation hub development, and initiatives focused on climate adaptation. These partnerships underscored AfriLabs’ commitment to not just supporting startups but also tackling some of Africa’s most pressing challenges through technology and entrepreneurship. The impact of these partnerships goes beyond numbers, they represent the collective ambition of a continent poised for transformation. Through strategic collaborations, AfriLabs has expanded access to capital, strengthened policy influence, fostered global market entry, and built a more resilient and inclusive innovation ecosystem. As we look ahead, our vision remains clear: to scale the impact of innovation, empower African startups to compete on the global stage, and create a future where every entrepreneur has the resources, networks, and opportunities to succeed. The partnerships we’ve forged in 2024 are only the beginning. Together, we will continue to push boundaries, redefine possibilities, and shape the digital future of Africa.
