HERE’S WHY THAT COULD BE YOUR BIGGEST MISTAKE Avoiding Your Regular Dental Checkup?

When was the last time you visited a dentist? Most of the people reading this can probably give an answer that falls within the last six months. However, a good portion of our population avoids the dentist unless they have no other option. They may have a fear of the dentist that stems from a childhood visit or worry about being able to afford the cost of potential treatment. Others fall under the assumption that if they don’t feel pain or discomfort in their mouths, then there’s nothing to worry about. However, not visiting a dentist for your regular exams and cleanings can be detrimental to your oral health. Let’s explore some of the most common reasons people avoid the dentist and why it’s so important to overcome whatever obstacles are in the way of achieving your dream smile. ‘I DON’T FEEL ANY ORAL PAIN OR DISCOMFORT.’ Some assume that if they don’t feel anything off in their mouth, they’re in good shape and don’t need to worry about seeing a dentist. However, just because you don’t feel anything doesn’t mean nothing is wrong. You could have minor issues that don’t cause pain or discomfort. You might need a filling or a deeper cleaning to

keep your teeth and gums in tip-top shape. When things start to hurt or become uncomfortable, it means there’s a serious problem developing. What could have been fixed with a simple filling has now turned into a root canal. ‘TREATMENT IS GOING TO COST TOO MUCH.’ Similar to the point above, if you hold off on dental treatment due to cost, you’ll likely be paying much more down the road. Simple procedures like fillings cost virtually nothing compared to root canals, crowns, and visits to specialists. If you hold off on completing the simple procedures and treatments due to cost, you’re going to pay much more to fix your problem in the future. ‘I’M TOO AFRAID.’ Do you know what’s worse than feeling some dental anxiety or fear? Losing your teeth or experiencing intense dental pain because you were too afraid to see a dentist when the issue was still minor. Dental fear is not the easiest obstacle to overcome, but some dentists specialize in providing fear-free dental services.
