Help for disabled children

When practitioners assess children with disabilities, they will think about the support that you need and the difficulties any of your family members face in looking after you. If you are disabled, all decisions about you will be made from information about: • how to help you achieve what you want to • what can help your family continue to care for you • how you can be kept safe • what practical support could be in place to help you and your family live a healthy and happy life

Help for young carers

A young carer is someone under 18 who helps look after a family member like a parent, sibling, or someone else in your family. Your local council can look at your situation to see how they can support you and your family. They will make sure you’re not taking on too much responsibility and will listen to your needs and wishes. They will look at the needs of your whole family and might combine what they think with other assessments that have been made.

Schools will also record if you’re a young carer each year to better help, understand and support you in school and with things like managing your homework.
