About The Edison Singers The Edison Singers is a Canadian all-professional chamber choir. The ensemble was founded in 2019 by Dr Noel Edison, and under his direction has quickly become known for its rich, warm sound, versatility, dexterity and clarity of texture. Annual auditions are held for current and aspiring choristers, which ensures the preservation and integrity of this trademark sound. At home in Elora and across Southwestern Ontario, The Edison Singers produce live performances, along with outreach and educational programmes which help promote and increase the public’s understanding, interest and appreciation of excellent choral music in senior citizens’ homes, churches, community centres and learning institutions. The Edison Singers, which has been praised as one of the finest chamber choirs in Canada, is committed to presenting Canadian repertoire and collaborating with other artists from across Canada and around the world.
Timothy Corlis is a JUNO-nominated composer hailed for his music’s depth, passion and colour. His Missa Pax , a major work, reinterprets the liturgical tradition giving it new expression and vitality. Corlis is also devoted to social change, with activism at the core of his creativity. In Loveliest of trees , a setting of A. E. Housman’s poem of the same name, he celebrates nature’s beauty and bounty. The place of the divine feminine in the birth of Christ is reflected upon in O magnum mysterium ; the dynamism of New York City is the inspiration behind Immortality ; and In paradisum reminds us that paradise is often experienced on earth. Noel Edison has produced over 26 recordings under the Naxos label with his various choirs. A number of these recordings have earned nominations for both GRAMMY and JUNO awards. • Edison has long been recognised as one of the leading choral conductors in Canada and is the recipient of numerous distinguished awards including the Order of Ontario, the province’s highest honour, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. • The work O magnum mysterium is a short Responsory at Matins for Christmas Day and should be pitched for seasonal playlists.
