In The Thick of the Fray

information from other colleagues on the ground. Is there anything we can do? Is he any better? There are feelings of helplessness. The sense of relief when you hear that a colleague has been released from ICU and is on the mend is immense. We have reported from inside ICUs and on the road in ambulances, in the thick of the sickness. These stories took weeks of planning – with team members renting temporary apartments and quarantining away from their loved ones once the story was over, so that they posed no risk to their spouses and children. These are just some of the issues that face us as we continue to work through the pandemic – covering a news story we have all become part of. And whilst all of this has been going on, we have continued our ‘day job’ as well. We have continued to do what we do best: reporting on regional conflicts, elections, refugee crises and natural disasters and telling human stories, against the backdrop of a story which has left none of us untouched.
