Unforgettable Stories, Indelible Memories

As a mother of two children, I feel totally overwhelmed when I see children falling victim to violence. It is my Achilles’ heel, and I imagine others feel the same way. The most difficult task I face is when I am required to select what is fit for TV broadcasting from among the many images we receive. I find myself caught between a rock and a hard place. A more difficult task is when I am writing to those images, as I am supposed to tell the story with objectivity. These are a few of the many challenges a journalist faces on a daily basis; especially in these difficult times when violence has become routine. The impact left by these images is – regretfully – indelible; and we remain haunted by these memories even more than the viewers. It is true: to be a journalist is not an easy job.
