Al Jazeera & Thomson Foundation: An Enduring Union of Skills and Experience

Washington, London, Sarajevo and Istanbul as well as Qatar. Training has taken on a new importance for all broadcasters as newsgathering technology rapidly evolves. A TV story which once took several staff and tonnes of equipment to film and transmit can now be achieved by one person and a smartphone. Enabling journalists to keep pace with new skills is vital to keeping news broadcasters competitive. The smarter organisations do not take on that challenge alone but develop partnerships to build a greater pool of competitive knowledge. In that context, Al Jazeera has warmly embraced the foundation’s pioneering work in using smartphones to produce TV news coverage along with other insights to the digital transformation of journalism. We are now entering a new phase where online training provides access to quality training for a greater number of journalists. Thomson Foundation’s expertise and early investment in digital learning techniques, coupled with our network of international experts, provides yet another opportunity for our “union of skills and experience” with Al Jazeera to be sustained so together we can help new generations of journalists and broadcasters.
