of ordinary people. The youth chanting in Tahrir Square reminded me of my early days: enthusiastic generations fighting a Goliath of corruption. When Egypt’s revolution was hijacked, the dreams of millions of its youth were dashed. We were swamped with torrents of false news. State- sponsored media fabricated stories, misleading the public. I wrote about duplicity and hypocrisy within the ‘fake news’ media. The report made shockwaves. Another memorable report came in the wake of the airing of the controversial show Gharabib Soud (Black Mountains). I exposed the malicious designs of the profession - detailing how drama, like journalism, can be a tool for destruction. When the unjustifiable blockade was imposed by Gulf states against Qatar, I knew that Al Jazeera was the target. I put pen to paper and wrote about the injustice. My words were in defence of the profession, before they were in defence of Al Jazeera. I wrote to defend the values and principles before the dream.
